Fiona Hurley (fiona_hurley) I loved Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Any recommendations for other retellings of The Six Swans, or variants such as The Wild Swans or the Seven Ravens?

Ella Ferris (eferris) | 226 comments Court of Swans by Melanie Dickerson is good, not fantastic though. My favourite is the original by Hans Christian Anderson.

I would recommend Dearest by Alethea Kontis. It's the third book of the series though.

Ella Ferris (eferris) | 226 comments I read that a few years ago...I remember it was quite good. I should do a re-read of the series!

I want to reread that series too! It's been a while, but I'm sure they're still amazing. :)

I read that one not long ago! It's also not my favorite by her. But it's also not my least favorite I read by that author haha. I'd say it's a good book, but it just wasn't blow me away good for me personally.

I like Dehila. She has lots of growth throughout the book and I'm happy to see her reflect back on her thoughts and actions to figure out why she thought the way she did at the time and learn from her experiences.

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments This has to be one of my very favorite fairy tales!! I think particularly the Wild Swans version.

I'm about to start Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim, which is based on that tale. I'm so excited!

I just added that to my list, it looks interesting!

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments You guys, I had such a blast reading this book ( Six Crimson Cranes (Six Crimson Cranes, #1) by Elizabeth Lim ). Fairy tales from all over the world (with the focus on the Wild Swans, of course) wrapped in an action-packed adventure full of interesting characters that challenged each other...just, all the yes.

I'd love to hear anyone else's thoughts on if you get your hands on it!

I just read the synapse and it sounds really interesting! I added it to my want to read list. I'm really happy that you enjoyed it so much. :)

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments I was hopeful, but I didn't expect to enjoy it quite so much. I love it when that happens! I hope when you get around to it, you enjoy it, too!

I put it on my list, it looks like a neat book. I dunno if it's just me, but I kind of get These Violent Delights vibes from it. I haven't even read either of them...What do you all think if you've read both Six Crimson Cranes and These Violent Delights?

I haven't read either of them, but from what I gathered of the synapses and reviews, I think These Violent Delights is darker and is part of the new YA that seems to be focused on lots of action, complex intrigue and is dark. I think Six Crimson Cranes is more fantasy based with dark undertones for action and plot, but it doesn't seem to be (from what I gather) same as These Violent Delights in that there's more character growth. Keep in mind please, I'm just trying my best with what I got because I haven't read the books so this is all just guess work. Hope this helps some.

Yes, absolutely! Honestly, I read the first few chapters of These Violent Delights, because I'm a huge fan of Shakespeare, and I was disappointed. I should write my own Shakespeare adaption...

message 19: by Nerdy Werewolf (new)

Nerdy Werewolf (nerdywerewolf) | 218 comments I haven't read These Violent Delights, but Six Crimson Cranes is definitely firmly in the fairy tale category with the characters and atmosphere.

I would imagine the Shakespeare retelling is a bit on the darker side. :)

Ohhh I should try and read it then. I just read the synapsis and it sounds intriguing. And the cover's sooooo pretty. *chief's kiss*
