I finished the play last night and just started the movie. What a terrific pick! I really enjoyed reading the play, and the actors are phenomenal in the movie. Looking forward to the discussion! P.S. Maybe it will be clearer to me in the movie, but did the dauphin die?

The Dauphin just sort of fades at the end of the battle, doesn't he? I do not believe we are supposed to believe he died, but honestly, I could see different productions feeling free to play it either way.
In real life, he wasn't even at the battle, and died a few months later, likely of dysentery.

Thanks, Shelia! It would make sense that even if he survived he was not present at the negotiations between the monarchs after. I could see his character being either not willing to face the shame and embarrassment of defeat or wiser French nobles wanting to keep the hothead away from the delicate conference (since everyone else was being so painstakingly, overtly cordial and proper). Side note, I loved the interpretation in the film of the herald Mountjoy. The way the actor played him added such depth beyond the lines. What a great film!

Isn't Montjoy fabulous?! I really love the movie, and I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it as well.
