As mentioned, we should be able to discuss book promotion and book trailers more informally when we are not off reading and reviewing. I am working on Bodhi Rising at the moment.

However, as a new author, I think related areas of promotion could use some mutual feedback where requested. These can include author interviews, book trailers, and author websites. We can give constructive and educational feedback on those also.

To start things off, I have a technical question regarding the video section of the profile page which is...

Is there a way to change the order of the videos after all have been put out there?

Surely goodreads.com has a way to rearrange them once they are there. I figured out how to rearrange the videos in the YouTube Playlist, but not here.

Right. it seems to be the latest one you add goes to the front. It would be a drag having to take them down and then reload them, but it could be done. Maybe I can ping the good folks at Goodreads.com to get some crack coders on this project. I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by everyone.

Also, I am curious for some comments on my trailers. I had a lot of fun making them, but really no feedback as of yet. And are trailers effective? If so, where should they be shown?

Thank you Afredo! That sounds very helpful. I will take a look at Instagram. I know I have an account somewhere, but what the password might be, I haven't a clue.

Take care,

Michael

Are we allowed to show our book promotions and author websites on this forum ?

I had not meant for this forum to be for promotions, per se, but for the review of each other's work. If we want to provide feedback for each other on our websites and book trailers, that would be staying in the same vein as exchanging reviews.

I would welcome feedback on my website and book trailers and to take a look at what others are doing. It would be good to know what works and what does not work in those areas.

Cool. So we wait until next week when you are live?

Same here. I can always use feedback, though making the changes people want in software is generally much easier said than done. My website has been a long work in progress. Currently, I am trying to figure out how to code a workable shopping cart for multiple items and multiple currencies. I started with WordPress and that was too confusing, so I coded my own. Then I determined that it was very 1990s looking and not mobile friendly, so I reworked it entirely. I came across an article that said something like either 50% of book sales or 50% of all sales were through phones and tablets.

Lately, I found that that version really was not mobile friendly and had to rework it yet again after understanding the tools better. Live and learn.

My website is an Author's Website and Blog, though I don't know if anyone really reads blogs. It seems authors are sort of expected to have them, and it is fun, so I create my blog posts in goodreads.com and port them over to the website. It is nice of goodreads.com to archive all of my posts!

On the book trailers, I learned about them and did not know that they were a thing. I created one for each of my books and it was fun doing it, so why not? My question is are they truly effective and where to we show them? I splash mine around Twitter but so far have had not feedback. They are a fixture here on my goodreads.com page. I'm not sure what folks expect out of a book trailer, really. I tried to make mine more engaging than the one's I have looked at so far. The very short one's might as well be only still ads since there is not time enough to get any of the flavor of the book in my humble opinion. I'd like to know what others think.

Ok, Simon, you should probably post a couple of times next week as a reminder for us.

I forgot to mention that my website is michaelsbookcorner.com

I am writing science-fiction and thus the theme.

Cheers!

Michael
