Ellen | 3596 comments Teenager Madeline has literally lived nearly her entire life in a bubble. Her home is climate controlled, humidity monitored, air locks in place, decontamination stations in use because Maddy suffers from a rare disease which causes her to be allergic to the world. Her life revolves around her physician mother, visiting nurse Carla, and her laptop computer. A gifted student, Maddy takes all of her classes on-line with no interaction with other students. Seventeen years ago Maddy's father and brother were killed in an automobile accident and now she and her mother are inordinately close.

One day Maddy hears a moving van pull up next door as a new family is moving in. Then she sees him: Olly, the handsome teenaged boy who is about to change Maddy's world. At first the two merely wave to one another but soon they begin messaging on their computers at all hours of the day and night. Sympathetic nurse Carla begins to allow Olly to visit when Maddy's mother is at work. Friendship blossoms but soon it becomes so much more. Maddy is willing to risk everything, including her very life, to be with Olly. The night she decides to run away from home could be the end of her life but the beginning of love with Olly.

I am so not a romance girl but this was rather good. Maddy is a sweet girl with no knowledge of the world except what she can learn from inside her house. Olly is in a turbulent family situation but is immediately drawn to the beautiful girl next door. I did not see the twist coming but it was a good one. Enjoyable read.
