Oh. I have one name with 3 versions. I have hundreds of personas over various rpgs, online social groups, and etc. I don't get caught up on if people call me Joe, Joey, or Joseph is what I mean.
Ah. I forgot to mention, I also blog about roleplaying.http://lovethelabyrinth.blogspot.com/
Love the Labyrinth.
I use to podcast "Meanwhile...The Super Gaming Podcast" but burned out after 2 years or so.
I'm a big supporter of tabletop hobbies.
My role playing days are so far behind me now... But it was fun.My speciality was having absolutely useless characters (with abilities such as "can do nice pigtails"), but unfortunately I was the only one in the group who usually would have the right insight on what should be done to advance the game. The MJ (or I think in English you say GM - Game Master) did even beg me once to have more useful abilities, but I never knew what to do with them (whereas I did revoke a demon invocation by doing ponytails on it's beard - that was my moment of glory).
Oh. I know the issue about being the only skilled person in the party who focuses on advancing the plot. I've dealth with a fair mix of gamers from powergamers, skill monkeys, ninja, axe crazy nutters, sloths, etc. I've been Game Mastering for close to 20 years now.And Aaron, it really depends on the group. Some Can be boring. If you have a good Game Master who knows how to divide attention and a group willing to entertain and enjoy the time with each other, the quality goes up. And not all game styles are for all gamers. System, short or long play, etc. It can really change the experience. You might enjoy more short session freeform games.
Aaron(Reblast) wrote: "Ah, it's just not my thing, Joey. I'm just not interested in role playing at all."That's fine. I guess it just reminded me folks tend to forget that even games of Risk or Monopoly can have roleplaying elements. It grew out of miniature wargame battles but includes stuff like murder mystery dinner theater and improv LARPing.
Live Action Roleplaying. This can be things like Middle Age costuming at a fair, or war recreation, to include well..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belegart...
I think it does depend a lot on the people.I remember a game once, not a roleplay, but a table top quite close to role playing (you had to invent stories, etc). My friends and I were very loud, guffawing, it was a real mess and I just couldn't stop laughing, when the table next to us was so calm, sedate. I didn't even know that you could play this game that calmly. And they were playing exactly the same game as us, with the same rules, same cards, everything.
Online games suffer from the anonymity effect. People grow less invested. I find tabletop, where folks sit down and schedule to be together gets better responses.
Hello Joey!Have you ever played Munchkin? My kids and I love that game! It's like D&D for dummies. :D
I have played Muchkin and enjoy it. I am a big fan of Steve Jackson Games...but more for GURPS than their card games.
was a tedious book. I like me some old school sci-fi...and this one had elements of Eclipse Phase (
) in it. (Mostly space colony life.) But yesh. The Rape is character development was thick and heavy back in the early 80's eh?
Sadly I've just gone though 2 weeks of plague and illness in the household. My ability to focus on books is near shot. But slowly I'm recovering. I'm gearing up my gaming blog for a big release soon and tinkering on online games. In the mean time I'm stalking reddit for book deals. Good place to find things there.
The Blade Itself is keeping me warm when I can focus enough to read.

Amazing how draining it is even when you aren't the one who is actually sick.
Feeling much better of late. I've been reading/writing on some of my gaming stuff related to a favorite game of mine Exalted from WhiteWolf (Onyx Path). I'm prepping for the new edition.
Spoke too soon. Just got through another weekend of pure hell from yet another bug. Ya. This year has been rough.
Not sure if it's the case where you live but as soon as the weather starts to improve, allergies kick in with force around here.
Hope you feel better soon, Joey!
Hope you feel better soon, Joey!
Finally got over the funk! And I have a new online game going over at roll20.I traded in my Pathfinder books (physical copies, I have pdfs) and picked up a whole series by Monte Cook Games.
Numenera Corebook and The Strange by Monte Cook and Bruce Cordell!
They both use the Cypher system which is fantastic for narrative exploration games. Every thursday I'm going to be running an online game based on it and hopefully doing Let's Plays on Youtube!
Thanks! It's going well. I'm working on a few projects. Mostly Numenera and Exalted stuff. But quietly making my way through a million and one fantasy/sci-fi novels I need to read.
Stars Without Number by Kevin Crawford is one of the best sci-fi RPGs you can get your hands on right now and get this...you can pick up the base game for FREE!http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/8...
I just wish I could get more people into it.
So, I've had a massive creative GRUNK recently. But as I crawl my way out of it I'm debating on trading/selling my L5R collection to get more Star Wars material. Problem is, it's so nitch I don't think I'll get good money for it. *sigh*
I'm sorry about the gunk. I can't imagine ever having too much Star Wars stuff, so despite not knowing what L5R is, wish you luck with the sale!

Mostly 80's cartoons, Giant Robots, Space science, Science/Atomic history, and world building.
As to my goals here I wanted a place to talk about the various series, backlog books, and general book based obsessions I'm delving into currently. I'm going to drop all sorts of pop culture weirdness, daydream logic, and the occasional surprise goblin attack on you.
Note I will be reviewing Fantasy, Sci-fi, science history, and gaming books here.
and a Gamebook called
The End of the World - Zombie Apocalypse
