How Did You Become A Fan?

How did you become an ARMY?
I totally remember every detail of how i got into kpop. It was during tenth grade. January 2018 when I started at a different school. A classmate (later became my best friend) asked me if i liked bts. Obviously id didnt know much abt them. My other classmates were so into kpop as well and pulled out a laptop and proceeded to show me all of their pictures. When i went home that day i listened to dna as per their request nd for some reason i kept on replaying it. i did not understand a thing and it was hard telling who is who. but i was mesmerized. although i was an army i was never really a hardcore kpop fan until late 2019 when i got into another kpop group.now i obsess over al kpop hroups like crazy

*Gasps* They looked all the same to you! How could you? Jk! I'm just joking around! When I first looked at them though, I honestly didn't think they looked all the same, I could see big differences, but I can see why people would see them as the same!

Same!!!! Namjoon was the most identifiable for me. Before I couldn't tell you the names of each member but now I know all of their faces and voices lol
ok I kind of shared my story of how i became army on the introduction page, so I just will copy and paste it here:
I have liked them since 2018 when I first saw them perform "IDOL" on AGT. I saw them sing and dance and kind of fell in love! My family didn't understand how kpop was so popular in America, so I didn't really start stanning. Then, at the beginning of quarantine, I decided to watch this 30 minute YouTube video that described each of the members and their personalities because I thought, why not? And, because one of my school friends liked talking about BTS and she encouraged me to get into their music. Then I started watching some of their music videos and was AMAZED. I didn't really do much after that. But then in January, my mom bought me the Love Yourself: Answer album, and that's when I started to become true ARMY. Now, my sister and I are both ARMY and it's a lot of fun stanning with her!

The difference is that none of my friend persuaded me to listen to them but I got interested in them after listening to Life Goes on and Joon's UN speech.

Okay, the music video for spine breaker is kinda funny and also slightly weird but very awesome lol.
i stumbled across blood sweat and tears' mv, and then not today's mv was released, who's lyrics and just the vibe, was beyond amazing <3~! so yeah :'3
my friend played 'fake love' for me and i couldn't get it out of my head, and then i fell down the rabbit-hole of BTS and kpop ;)
I became an army after a friend showed me the fire music video! I was amazed by their talent and went straight home to watch more videos!

I became ARMY and Suga biased by three songs:
Boy With Luv
Mic Drop (you gotta love this era)
and... Save Me
Before I was ARMY, I didn't really know the term BTS that well, but after one of my ARMY buddies recommended a couple of songs, it was love at first note.
ARMY 4 ever :D
Boy With Luv

I got into BTS late May 2020 because I was severely bored and depressed. I started listening to them because my friends had talked about them before but I never really had much interest in them before. The songs that got me into them were (in order): DNA, Fake Love, Boy With Luv, Fire, Stay Gold, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Run, ect.

I can't quite remember how I got into BTS. I think it was around the time Film Out was released? I do listen to some other Kpop so I think maybe I saw it on my recommended?
I thought you said in your introduction that you were an ARMY for a year, 'Film Out' was released in April. It's fine lol, I'm just being problematic, sorry. ")

I know it's been close to a year at least so maybe Film Out stuck out for me since it's one of the first I saw released???
Yeah, it was released this year! Yeah I can understand that lol.
Maybe! 'Film Out' was the first song released when I was an ARMY too! 'Dynamite' was the first song I ever heard by them though lol, figures.

I know it's been longer than 4-5 months because I saw something another youtuber I like did with BTS and I remember that I had already watched some of their videos at that point. I think I started a little after muster last year? So July maybe?
You both started to really love BTS over a period of a few years, that's cool! I love 'Hold Me Tight' and 'Love Yourself: Tear', they're both amazing.
I knew a girl who was obsessed with BTS and I also knew they were really popular so I looked them up and saw a few of their top songs, etc. The first one I heard was ‘ON’, which had only just been released at the time, and it all stemmed from there…
I have a friend who used to rant on and on about BTS all the time. In 2018. We used to ignore her or make excuses if she ever started with BTS again. I regretted that time. I still regret somewhat now that I did not listen to her about how amazing they are! Well, I was not into music at that time. I started listening songs on Youtube. I heard a lot of hollywood and bollywood songs. I got recs and a lot of things but I ignored them. Once I got this BTS recommendation [Dynamite]. I ignored it back in August 2020. I got it several times, but I did not pay attention. My cousin told me to listen to Kill This Love by Blackpink and I hardly knew them, but there was this other friend of mine who was really into BP. My cousin's andmy taste in music is practically the same, so I heard it and I loved it! Nope, not the end. I didn't know at all that something like k-pop existed. I knew that there were korean songs, but I did not know that they were called as k-pop. November was there. Me and my cousin were hanging out, listening to music. I got this rec again and she told me to listen. I fell in love with Dynamite!! I wished I had heard it sooner. I came home on 27th Nov and streamed however many songs I could and the rest is history!
That's a long story! I'm glad you finally listened to K-Pop! I didn't know K-Pop existed either, I only knew the name BTS, I didn't even know they were a K-Pop group! I was so ignorant lol.
They sort of crept up on me! I first heard of them in 2018 but I knew practically nothing about them except the name Jungkook for whatever reason. My sisters became an avid fan by 2019 and I sort of got into them by listening to Boy With Luv when it came out but I wasn't exactly a fan and thought they were pretty generic. By 2021 I was still not a fan (I got into 1D around here & I was very biased). Flash-forward to summer of 2021 and I spent most of the summer watching BTS related stuff with my sisters. I found the American Hustle Life crazy/funny/cringe and began watching more of their RUN stuff. So like I said they crept up on me without me realizing it.

When I was in second grade(2016) my friend showed me the Blood, Sweat, and Tears MV and That's when I started likeing BTS. Now, I don't like them as I did when I was younger but I still love their songs!! I think BTS was way more popular in korea back then lol (It's just my opinion)

Oh gosh this is so weird, but I’ll tell the story anyway. So I was reading this book and fell in love with one of the characters and I was like: “wow I wished guys like that existed in real life.” As the book continued on I started to like the guy more and more. When I finished it I read that the characters in the book were actual people in a band named BTS and I was like “I know that name” so I went to YouTube and searched up BTS, the first video that popped up was boy with luv . So I opened it up and I was like “dang the music video is amazing and their voices woooww.” I totally fell in love with “the guy with pink hair” (his smile, his voice and his looks) I called him that until I found out it was Park Jimin and the thing was this was the guy I fell in love with while reading the book. I then continued listening to their songs and learned their names and before I knew it I could easily tell them apart and I was apart of the fandom.

I had a friend in stan Twitter who annoyingly tweeted about BTS ALL. THE. TIME. Lol my husband was an old school kpop fan, like BIGBANG and 2NE1. So when I checked them out he loved them. When I saw the dance practices that sold me. “Go Go” was my fav and “Silver Spoon” at the time. I thought Taehyung looked like Joe Jonas for some reason and he caught my eye 🤣 got into their videos and discography a lot more and fell in love. Got into a local promoting group for a time and did radio requests and stuff. That kinda fizzled out but it was fun! My first official comeback was “Fake Love”, so I’ve been into them since about 2017 before getting super involved for that comeback. I was not a multi until about 2019 so they got aaaaallll of my attention haha now I still really love them but I guess I’m a little detached because I know military will be coming soon 😢. They mean a ton to me and my family and their music is always the most uplifting and positive of any other artist and I love that. Love that I can share them with my kids and they’ll grow up listening to some awesome music and learning dances and stuff. Anyhow, I really love BTS. They started it all for me. 💜
Yeess, the old school K-Pop fans, love them 😂. Taehyung? Joe Jonas? I don't see the difference 🤣. It's amazing that "Fake Love" was your first comeback, "Butter" was mine lmao. (Well, "Film Out" came out when I was a fan, but I'm not sure if it was a comeback) BTS also had ALL my attention for about a year lol. Omg, the darn military, Jin... precious Jin. I'm so glad you get to let your kids grow up with K-Pop, that's amazing.
It was a super weird association with Tae at first. I also was convinced he must be JK until I learned their names 🤣 Ooo so you’re relatively new Madeleine? That’s dope! (no pun intended lol). ARMY is a great community and I hope we can band together while they do their military. I definitely get serving their country and stuff but I secretly still hope they will get out of it by getting the credit for being, idk, Korea’s best tourism ambassadors lol

Yeah lol, I get that. Yeah, I became a fan in February or March last year! I'm convinced I discovered them in February but my sister is convinced that I discovered them in March, I don't even know lol. Because me and my sister became fans at the same time. Yeah, they honestly kind of should be released from the mandatory service but then that would cause outrage and fans would go crazy over why their ults aren't or weren't allowed to not go to the military even though the reason is obvious. Fans of other groups were already really mad that they get to go to the military when they're 30 so imagine the chaos if they were granted full... I can't think of the word lol. Whatever, you get what I mean, if they were allowed to not go to the military.

Nice!!!! That’s so exciting! Oh yeah, the fans would loves it, especially Shawols and EXO-Ls since they’re big groups and they’ve almost all already served….but yeah I’m with you they kinda are serving with their art. But I have heard rumors that they’ll all do it at once and have a lot of unstopped online content to tide us over until they come back. Who knows 🤷♀️
Yeah, I felt sad when I heard of all the EXO members going to the military, coming back and other members going in. Oh, that would be... a good alternative maybe? I think that would be good because then we wouldn't miss one or two members every time we saw the other members. It would get the service out of the way too. But yeah, who knows. I don't even know if I would want that though.
