I had a dream that there was a bookstore that had editions of books in their original languages (like I was specifically looking for something in Greek - nevermind that I don't read any Greek) and while nothing was in English, it seemed amazing to me, and I have to know if there is a bookstore that has shelves of literature from different countries in their home language!

I really like that.

Barbara I think book stores - a lot of stores and malls but especially brick-and-mortar book stores - have to go beyond selling books and develop book related events.
So I would have a little area in the store for book clubs. This would bring people into the store and they might look at the selections for their pick and then order the book from that store. I would also host things like author events and discussions and maybe even talk a local radio station, if there is one, to broadcast from the store once a month, have a raffle or something.
The reality is, if you are just selling a product, you have strong competition with online, but in-person events have a big advantage over virtual, IMHO.

What a wonderful way to let your community be a part of the whole thing. I know online shopping has picked up in recent years, but having some radio station podcast what was happening would be a wonderful idea.
