Jasmine (pikakejazz) A little early to be starting week 9, but I joined the group late and I already was reading this so I'm going to use it! I'm only about a fourth in so far. I'm liking it ok; it's a little slow, but I've heard from multiple people that it's an excellent must-read.

Libscigrl | 12 comments Terrific book!

Bam cooks the books (bamcooks) I'm going to read this one too. It's been on my family's bookshelf for most of my life so it's about time!

Raeann (broadwaypants) This is one of my favorite books! The pacing is pretty slow, especially compared to some books that have been published in recent years, but it fits the story and gives the reader time to truly get to know the characters. I hope you enjoy it, Jasmine!

Jasmine (pikakejazz) This is my last book to finish early (hopefully). Now I have to do a little bit of catch-up with weeks 1-2, 6-7.

Anyways, I loved it! This book is very character-driven (not a whole lot of plot) but I felt like the characters were very timeless.

My full review here.

Tara | 22 comments I haven't read this book in awhile though I do remember enjoying the characters... I might pick this one up again later in the year

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 319 comments This one is my library book club book this month, and I am loving it so far. It has so many quotable lines. The one about the baby needing imagination was great.
This one is now on my to buy list as I will read it again.

Bam cooks the books (bamcooks) I'm loving it too so far, especially chapter 22, when she first learns to read.

Veronica (ronireads13) | 70 comments Starting this one today. heard so many great things about it.

Erin Allen (buckuplittlecamper) | 25 comments my all time favorite. I've read it many times.

Jenny (pagelady) | 155 comments I'm going to read this one for Week 15 - a popular author's first book. Can't wait. I saw the movie years ago and liked it. I'm sure the book will be better if it's character focused like you all have just said. It's hard to get into the mind of a character in a movie.

Veronica (ronireads13) | 70 comments Just finished this today. Absolutely loved it! I will definitely read it again and will have to try to find the movie and watch it.

Jenny (pagelady) | 155 comments Veronica, I'm only 3 chapters in, and it's already SO MUCH better than the movie :) But the movie is still a good rainy day Saturday kind of classic :)

Jenny (pagelady) | 155 comments "She [Francie] was the one who was changing. She told papa about it. He made her stick out her tongue and he felt her wrist. He shook his head sadly and said,

'You have a bad case, a very bad case.'

'Of what?'

'Growing up.'"

Tiffany Anderson (miss5elements) | 66 comments Great book. It falls under the "Hometown" category and "Should Have Read in School" for me. One of the many things I loved about it is picturing her in school and knowing that most of our public schools were built during that era, a few still have the original desks. Much of Brooklyn has changed, but a lot of it is the same and you can feel the history.

Jenny (pagelady) | 155 comments I love that feeling, Tiffany. I get it with good Southern fiction because I'm from the south.
