Evangaline darts into the room. I can't believe I'm late! She screeches to herself. I was all ready to go and then it just slipped my mind! She glances around the room, spotting Yami and Asa sparring. Ooh! That looks like fun!
Eva rushes forward, and prevents Hannah from hitting the ground too hard.
"What on earth is happening here?" Evangaline asks, eyes wide. "In sparring, there's rules, like light contact, and stay two inches from the face."
"Okay, hold it!" Eva yells. "Would you please explain the rules here to me? I'm pretty sure the Academy doesn't want us breaking the training weapons! Where is the teacher? Are we supposed to be sparring without adult supervision? I'm sorry for being a party-crasher, but this is not safe!"

maybeeee we can let the professor make the rules instead of making them up? I know i'm not a mod but-))
((Probably a good idea. But who's the professor in this class?))

Eva reels back. "But this isn't a real fight! You don't actually want to send your opponent to the infirmary! It's a simulation fight! Not a real one!"

Evangaline shakes her head in disbelief. "Maybe we could save the head-tearing-off for the humans?" She asks, trying to defuse the situation. "And lets go easy on everyone who hasn't actually fought before?" She looks at Asa for confirmation. "You haven't had any training yet, have you?"
Eva watches Asa walk over and sit down. "Are you okay? Did you get hurt?" She asks.

"And Hannah? Are you alright?" she adds, remembering her friend's fall. "I know you're fine, Yami, why don't you go grab a dummy, and you can beat it up while we wait for the teacher to show up." She smiles at her. It doesn't quite reach her eyes, though, which show her stress levels rising.
Eva stares at disbelief at Yami. "I learned to fight a while ago, when I decided it was time to learn to defend myself. That's a generalization, and it shows that you think you're better than the rest of us. Please don't be that person."

Eva sends a hard stare Yami's way. "Gentle does not mean weak. Just because a person doesn't want to fight, doesn't mean they can't. And you shouldn't just assume others are weaker than you are, just because you're the fastest."

Eva's stare turns into a glare. "There are other ways of winning. For example: Not fighting in the first place! And your speed has a weakness. As far as I know, from observing, and I might be wrong, but it seems like you can't maneuver very well with those giant wings, which means you can't turn as quickly as you fly straight. And you have to get started flying for a few feet before you can speed up to your normal speed. Again, I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me."
((Hello? Did everyone poof out of existence?))

"Oh." Eva blinks. "Cool. Can I see?" She's already walking over, but knows it's impolite to touch a person's wings without their permission.

Eva laughs. "That's brilliant! The fact that your wing structure is pliable enough to let you do that..." She trails off, and blushes. "Sorry, I'm a wing geek. I went through a time when I was a kid when I liked to draw them, and I looked up just about everything on wings I could find."
"Do you think that, if there were dragons, they would be our species, like, second cousins or something?" She randomly asks, glad that the tension in the room is dissolving.

Eva walks forward, closing the last few feet between them, and reaches out greedily to touch them. Yami's feathers are surprisingly soft, especially for primary feathers. Most of the time, primary feathers are a lot more stiff, to keep the bird-person in the air when flying, but with Yami's flexibility in her wings, it makes sense for them to be softer. Interesting. She smiles at her.
