Department Store.

Eva entered the rather posh shop, wrinkling her nose. She needed a new dress for a ball, and none of the silks were fine enough to suit her. She picked up a gown and tossed to a nearby attendant.

Aubrey walked into the shop to pick up the perfume her mother so liked for her birthday. Not that it would make much difference. James and Lilianne would still gain most of her parents attention. She was just the disappointment child and it didn't help with the fact she had tried to run away. At least her mother hadn't insisted on guards for this meeting.

Eva glanced over at the entering girl pawing through shoddy perfume. She rolled her eyes. "There's much higher quality perfume over there." She told the girl, nodding her head toward small bottles of perfume on a gold platter.

Aubrey looked up. "Thank you. I knew these didn't smell quite right." she said with a grateful smile as she walked over to where the other girl had told her the better perfume was. She started looking through it trying to find a small purple bottle with a lily stopper.

Eva smiled indulgently. "I don't believe I've seen you around before, but you seem of good breeding- what is your name?"

" Aubrey Rose Taylor and yours?" she asked with a polite smile. She had finally found the right bottle of perfume, she just hoped her other siblings hadn't brought the same thing for her mothers birthday.

"Evangeline Vanderbilt of course." Eva replied,"Why are shopping here, at a store such as this?"

"Trying to find a bottle of my mother's favourite perfume for her birthday and you?"she replied as she turned the bottle she was holding over in her hands hoping she had chosen the right one.

"I need a gown for a ball. I don't see anything remotely appropriate though." Eva pouted, pursing her lips.

" What colour are you looking for," she said surveying the collection. It was hit and miss with these places if you found a decent dress or not. Sometimes they had gorgeous gowns in other time times not so much.

"Pastels are so lasts season, and my tailor and seamstress are both sick with a bout of the flu. I was thinking something dark, maybe with stripes or tassels, made of a satin or silk, very chic, with an s shaped silhouette."
