What is a "Spoiler" and how do i use "Spoiler" tags?

Definitions of "Spoiler" from the Urban Dictionary:

1) ... revealing major parts of the plot or big story line events to others.

2) The ruining of a surprise in a book, movie, tv program, etc.

3) When someone reveals a previously unknown aspect of something ( a book, tv program, movie) which you likely would have rather learned on your own.

Rule of thumb: If you aren't sure if something is a "spoiler, " hide all of it behind spoiler tags.

Here examples of my comments from a past buddy read in another group with use of (possible) spoiler information hidden:

1) Example of Basic Use of spoiler tags. Its "basic," because all of the comment it hidden:

"Guys, I read the first chapter yesterday.

Her mother is very jealous of heroine's closeness to her father. I'm already seeing that the heroine has love of archeology as another basis for a deep bond with her father and mother is uninterested in her husband's life's work. I don't know why Rupert wants to take his annoying wife unwillingly to Egypt! Maybe he is immune to her whining!"

2) Example of Advanced use of spoiler tags (or where I "feel" certain of what should be hidden or what is a spoiler/should be hidden and what is not:

Shannon, I hear Annie's Song is a popular book by Catherine Anderson.

I've read up to the end of chapter 6. I'll add my comments tomorrow because it's late now and I need sleep!

I like the writing so far

Ch.1: Amy to Loretta: (view spoiler)["Sometimes when ya ain't lookin', Pa eyes ya with downright fondness."

Ohhh, boy. I know what this is foreshadowing. Not looking forward to it. (hide spoiler)]

Ch.2: Tom Weaver (view spoiler)[doesn't appear to be such a bad guy, willing to ride out to find an escort for Loretta and not wanting her to feel obligated to marry him when he returns. I like that he's somewhat knowledgable about Indians unlike Henry. *rolling my eyes* (hide spoiler)]

Ch.3: I particularly like this quote by Tom to Loretta: (view spoiler)["You only think you can't talk, girl. Them there eyes of yours never shut up."

I'm confident Hunter would say the same thing when she goes with him. (hide spoiler)]

Open Library is having technical difficulities, so I can't view the chapters and comment on them individually, so I'll wait till later. If it doesn't return to normal, I might group chapters 4 through 6 together.

Hello i am a big Catherine Anderson fan!

Comanche Moon and Annie`s Song are both my all time favourite novels! Hope you guys enjoy the read!

Ch.3 continued: (view spoiler)[Not sure why Hunter took Loretta's drawers (after her bath). I hope the author explains it later. (hide spoiler)]

Ch.3 and 4:(view spoiler)[Yep. Henry wants Loretta. Sick pig! Fortunately, Hunter came to her rescue. He should have killed him though.

I read a spoiler for the second book in the series (Amy's book) and the reviewer mentioned that (view spoiler)[she gets raped by her stepfather, which I'm guessing is Henry (unless he dies by the end of this book), as well as by other men. Poor Amy. T__T Life was just so much harder for women back then. (hide spoiler)]

Speaking of Amy, she meets her hero (Swift Antelope) in chapter 4, when Hunter tossed her onto a horse with a young Comanche boy.

I hope they explain what happened to Tom Weaver as well. (hide spoiler)]

I have nothing to comment on chapters 5 and 6, just that it's nice to get Hunter's POV.

On to chapter 7!

Ch.8: Oh, dear. Please do not tell me that (view spoiler)[Hunter's cousin is going to try to rape her, too, in a later chapter.

Aw, the scene where Loretta ran away on the horse reminded me of A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught. This scene was more heartbreaking. T__T (hide spoiler)]

@Shannon, (view spoiler)[Yes, I thought maybe he was intrigued by them. That conversation he had with his brother (Warrior) about how the white men like to dress their women in layers was humorous.

Paraphrasing Warrior here: "How the hell do they have so many children if they are always covered. I'd be too tired by the time I strip her of her layers to do anything." (hide spoiler)]

I should have stayed up longer last night to read chapter 11! (view spoiler)[I think it's a little early for Hunter to soften towards Loretta but I do like reading about it. One of my favorite angsty moments in romance novels is when the hero is trying to convince the heroine that he's a good guy (or that he cares for or even loves her) and the heroine stubbornly refuses to believe him because of her hatred of him. I like how he always spoons her when they sleep. Sure, it's to ensure that she doesn't escape and to keep her warm but it's still romantic.

I theorize that it was Red Buffalo who put the rattlesnake in the pallet. (hide spoiler)]

Ch.14: (view spoiler)[Goodbyes always make me emotional. (hide spoiler)]

Ch.15: (view spoiler)[That was a close one! Good thing the Comancheros recognized Hunter's medallion, but what about Amy?! *anxious*. (hide spoiler)]

Ch.18 & 19: (view spoiler)[Ugh! Lies that lead to misunderstandings. Thankfully, it was resolved sooner than later. (hide spoiler)]

Just a quote I liked from chapter 19: (view spoiler)["No woman could possibly get that angry over another woman unless she was jealous. And a woman didn't get jealous unless she was in love." (hide spoiler)]

I stopped after chapter 20. SEVEN MORE CHAPTERS TO GOOOOO!!!!

Ch.21: (view spoiler)[Hunter is so gentle, patient, and loving towards Loretta, I just love it! (hide spoiler)]

Well, I finished! I rated it a 3 out of 5. A 2.85 for the romance + 0.15 for the whole prophecy and their journey to trusting, loving, and understanding each other. Hopefully, that isn't too much of a spoiler.
