July was chosen as a month for novellas. We can both nominate AND discuss the voting style in this thread.

Since novellas are shorter than novels, we will tackle not two but FOUR novellas in one month. Every member can nominate up to four works: two SF and two Fantasy novellas, first published in either 2020 or 2021.

I'd say the default option is to create two polls and pick the top two from both, but in the planning thread we also briefly discussed the idea of "in-thread voting": skipping the polls, with everyone simply announcing their preferences in this thread. Since we usually get less than 10 votes in the polls, in-thread voting is doable.

Nominations until May 10th, voting May 11th - 18th.

Kristenelle | 641 comments I want to nominate "A Psalm for the Wild-Built" by Becky Chambers, but it isn't being released until July 13 it looks like. Thoughts? Would that be too difficult for people to obtain?

Remote Control - Nnedi Okorafor
Fireheart Tiger - Aliette de Bodard
We Shall Sing a Song Into the Deep -
Andrew Kelly Stewart

I'll go with British:
Light Chaser and One Day All This Will Be Yours for SF
Elder Race for fantasy

Read it not so long ago and I confirm that this is a good choice, Oleksandr 😄
My review can be read here.

I'm glad you liked it

We should ask him to hurry up ;)

Seriously though then I need to check up on what fantasy is planned/present

This one appeals to me, but the expected publication date is August 24th 2021 😉

I had to check the dates :) gonna seek for something already out but nevertheless new

Eva I'd like to nominate

The Seventh Perfection by Daniel Polansky
for fantasy. It's an unusual fantasy murder mystery in which you know only the words spoken to the investigator by other people.

I second These Lifeless Things (SF), We Shall Sing a Song Into the Deep (SF), and Snow Chanter (Fantasy).

BTW, I just read Fugitive Telemetry, I really liked it, and she went back to Novella length

I will not nominate it obviously because I already read it.

In that case, I'll nominate Fugitive Telemetry for SF

For fantasy, I'll nominate Come Tumbling Down (got to read all those Hugo-nominated works!).

Sorry to not be nominating, but I really don't have an opinion. I read Finna (I note it's not on here, but it was cute) Fugitive Telemetry, and Come Tumbling Down recently. I really do not know about the others, except Tchaikovsky good

I will vote after the rest of you nominate

Last chance to nominate!

We have enough nominations but not too many, so I'll put up the polls tomorrow and top two from both categories will be our July MRs.

message 16: by Eva (new)

Eva Great, thank you, Antti! :-)

I remembered to put up the polls, but forgot to include the links here; sorry, all.

Anyway, we got ties in both categories, so I used random.org to determine the winners. Our July MRs will be:
One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells
Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard
The Seventh Perfection by Daniel Polansky

Gabi | 433 comments Great! 2 of those I haven't read.

Looks good. I cannot obtain One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky because the library has no Kindle copy, so I will ask why since I have time. I loved Fugitive Telemetry and am looking forward to the others.
