I was like that too. I can't remember a single book that I didn't finish for school. Some were pretty painful, but I managed to finish them.
This is a great list! I've read quite a few, but I think I might read To Kill a Mockingbird for this category. For some reason it was never assigned in any of my classes!

I'm really struggling with this one - I read all my books in high school, and more. Looking at lists of books for high schoolers, I'm struck by how depressing many of them are! I don't like depressing books. But here are some suggestions in a variety of categories from the common core creators: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/a...
And a list of best teen books: http://www.npr.org/2012/08/07/1577953...
In all of these, I should find something I want to read!
I just listed the top 100 books as determined by my book club. I'm having a hard time with a book I didn't finish too. Year I was born was a fun one, though!http://www.literatureandleisure.com/2...
The book I chose was one that one of the classes in High School read, but my English class did not. So, if I had taken that class, I should have read it. And, I remember wanting to read it...and, it took until this category for me to get around to doing so. I am SO glad I did. It was a wonderful book. I read Flowers for Algernon. Highly recommend.

This is a terrific list! I, too, believed I had read everything I was required to read in high school. High school was so long ago that I can't really swear to it, so I was looking for an approach to this category when I found your links. Somehow I had never read Catcher in the Rye, which I had already chosen for "Book Published the Year I Was Born" (1951), but there was Uncle Tom's Cabin!
That must have been assigned but I don't remember reading it and this is the perfect chance. Thanks!
ha ha ha I love the topic for this book! Like others, I read everything I was assigned in high school. We did have choices though, so I figured I would read a book that was on the list.
