What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This was part of either a series or universe of books. Dragons, dwarves, kender, humans, elves. This specially was around a large battle fought by 2 or 3 different factions of gargoyles, I think they were called Draconians. Some of these gargoyles would explode upon death others would shapeshift into the form of who killed them and the third would turn to stone trapping any weapons within them. I read this about 20 years ago and it was on my parents bookshelf so probably published late 90's.

That's the Dragonlance universe. It has quite a few books, so it might be difficult to find the exact one you read without more plot details. The first book is Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
