Appearance: (Drew them a tiny reference here) Tamarack is a short but heavy-set and burly mudwing with dark, purple tinted scales. His eyes are a bright teal green and he is never seen without his white bandana wrapped around his horns. They have a distinctive heart-shaped marking at the base of their neck and on their back legs. Tam has many scars from his service in the military, most notably a terrible burn scar on his tail. They have a tattoo of a coiled copperhead snake on their right shoulder that they try very hard to avoid talking about.

Personality: Tamarack is a kind and relaxed dragon who loves to sculpt. He is more than willing to go out of his way to help others in distress, and hates conflict. Tam is a skilled peacekeeper, as their quiet, low voice is generally calming to listen to on its own and they are willing to put themself between two fighting dragons if the situation calls for it. Tamarack struggles to see his virtues without others pointing them out to him, and as such he has trouble thinking highly of himself. He uses his art as a distraction, in both helpful and unhelpful ways at times.

Backstory:Tamarack and his three older siblings were pressured by the elder of their village into joining the mudwing military from a very young age. The quartet began their service when they were only five years old, and led a fairly uneventful military career for a few years. Until a small skirmish on the skywing-mudwing border suddenly turned bloody. At one point an enemy skywing launched a devastating blast of fire at Tam, only for their sib Mire to jump in front of the blaze at the last second, saving all but Tamarack’s tail from the fire. Tam didn’t even realize they’d been injured until twenty minutes later, when their troop finally made it to the medical tent, carrying Mire. Tamarack’s tail healed quickly enough, and for a while it seemed as though Mire could pull through as well. Right up till his condition took an abrupt turn for the worst, and Mire was pronounced dead within the day. Drowning in their grief, Tamarack and his sibs quickly turned on each other. Tam’s words were especially venomous, so hurtful in fact that they led to his remaining sibs disowning him and Tam abandoning the mud kingdom entirely. Eventually they found their calling in sculpture and opened a small pottery and clay art studio in Possibility, before being approached for the art teacher position at Jade Mountain Academy.

Likes: sculpting, his cat, helping others find a creative outlet that works for them, talking through other people’s feelings.

Dislikes: Firing clay, painting, long distance flights, sleeping underground, talking through his own feelings.

Other: Tamarack has a pet cat named Corn Cob (Cob or Cobby for short). She’s a dark grey tabby with short fur and white markings on her chest, neck, muzzle, paws, and tail tip. Her eyes are yellow, hence the name. (Visual reference here!)
