Kristi gets abducted in the short period of time after the ultimatum Rick issued and when he was supposed to pick her up. His decision to let her return to her dorm unaccompanied…implausible or in keeping with both characters?

It definitely wasn't smart, but Rick has been trying to give Kristi space and so this didn't seem out of character or implausible, just a simple mistake - one that a police detective probably shouldn't make.

The author definitely contrived this situation, but it, nevertheless, was in line with the way Rick and Kristi's relationship was outlined.

It was Rick trying to maintain a relationship with his daughter. They both needed a cooling off period. I agree with Lauren, the situation was contrived by the author.

It felt contrived to me, too. If he’s pulling her out of school and getting her 24/7 protection, that would have started immediately.

I think this happened to fit the plot. It was a bit contrived but then Rick had a lot on his mind and they were in a difficult part of their relationship. So probably he thought a little distance might be good at this time.

I agree, it was contrived. Rick had no real reason, other than his gut, to think Kristi was in danger, but he insists she leave school. To let her wander around unprotected after you have made the decision she is in danger is implausible.
