There was a lot of death of characters - maybe some unnecessary, but I think James had to go. If the author planned to have the relationship between Rick and Olivia develop, James had to either go far away or die because of the animosity between himself and Rick as well as the attraction between James and Olivia.
I agree James had to go. What bothers me is that both Rick and his daughter hated James and wanted nothing to do with him. Then the moment he is killed they are all weepy. Very too faced
I was kind of sad that James was killed. He deserved a second chance with his brother and daughter, and I felt that this was a missed opportunity for a character who was worthy of redemption and love. That said, in terms of Rick and Olivia's future happiness, he did need to go.
I didn't like that James was killed. He needed time to build bridges and leave the priesthood. Maybe I'm naive, but I think that Olivia and Rick would be fine if James lived. Olivia isn't Jennifer and every woman doesn't cheat with her boyfriend's brother. I didn't feel that Kristi hated James; I think she was trying to wrap her head around this new revelation. I don't see Rick ever inviting James to Thanksgiving dinner, but he needed an opportunity to forgive and move on.
I was surprised about James being killed off. I didn’t see Rick and Kristi hating him so much as being hurt and disappointed by him. Poor Kristi’s very being was turned upside down by learning her priest uncle was her father, also shattering illusions about her mother.
I thought the scene in that lair brought the strengths and weaknesses of the captured women to the fore. Olivia and Kristi are both strong women and knew they were going to die so they were going out fighting. They never stopped trying to save themselves. Poor Sarah was so beaten down she never even tried. They all stayed true to their characters. I loved how they were doing some serious harm to Warren before help arrived. It was a good scene.

Agree with all your comments. For me a better ending would have been for James to live and Olivia, Rick and Kristi to work through their problems with him. All very neat and tidy for him to die and supposedly they all lived happily ever after without resolving anything.

I agree Lisa. As long as the story is; I can see parts that could be deleted then allow for the main characters to make amends. In this case James' death was too easy.
