Jace (jace_is_reading) Happy reading!

A missing girl on a journey of revenge. A Serial―like podcast following the clues she's left behind. And an ending you won't be able to stop talking about.

Sadie hasn't had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she's been raising her sister Mattie in an isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie's entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister's killer to justice and hits the road following a few meager clues to find him.

When West McCray―a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America―overhears Sadie's story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie's journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it's too late.

Chapter 1-5

I don't like the podcast idea, I understand that podcast idea sounds good but narrating the book like it's some sort of conversation exchange happening between people is making me lose my concentration in the book. I loved reading Sadie's part. It was dark and haunting and I loved her narration. The crime was heinous and I'm actually wondering what did Sadie do until June, what made her wait for six months before pursuing Keith (a) Darren. Because it seems like she already knew it could be Keith. But I'm not too sure whether it was Keith or some other random person who passed through the town.

Sadie looks really dangerous and I can't wait for the next chapters to know how she is developed throughout the story. I always love a revenge story but this book is already disturbing me with Sadie's hunger to find that person who murdered Mattie. The stutter makes her even more unique.

I don't know how the podcast crew would follow the breadcrumbs, but I'm excited to read their findings too. It'll be like reading a complete story from both their perspectives. Can't wait for the next chapters

Chapter 6-10

omg, I really underestimated Sadie. She has an sense of ruthlessness and kinda single minded about her motive to get to Jack (a) Keith (a) Darren ( that's so many aliases lol ) With that said, I did liked Javi and I hope Sadie gets to have an future with people like Javi in it.

I had my doubts about Keith before but after these last few chapters, I feel like he could be that person who killed Mattie that day. He did have an violent past but it seems like he's enabled by his friend and I hope he gets whatever Sadie's planning for him. That bar setting was a nice change of pace even though it feld odd stacked in between the story. But I guess she needs some connection to get to Silas and Kendall seems like the person who will get her there. I hope it works out. I'm also intrigued by what Marlee found on Jack's jeans. It sounds sinister.

The podcast part of the story still feels odd, since West is still not that convinced whether this story is any good. Him being non committal about Sadie's disappearance is making me like the podcast chapters less than the Sadie's narration. Hope it picks up pace in the future chapters

Chapter 11-15

This book keeps getting darker and darker. So far, Keith (a) Jack and Silas seems like child abusers and I really really want to know what happened at Lily's with Sadie and Javi. I don't know whether it was left to our interpretation or will the author be acknowledging those events in real time. I really don't like the way the flashbacks are written along with the events that are happening in real time. It's easy to understand but it's just unnecessary and it doesn't exactly elevate a scene whenever the author does that. I'm referring to the swing scene at Wagner and the bathroom scene at Silas Baker's house.

Sadie getting hurt physically is kind of an reality check that there will be setbacks along the path she has chosen for now. I liked the exchange she had with Cat in car. That chapter shows us parts of Sadie ( which we already figured by now ) through her own narration which was cool.

May Beth has some secrets about Sadie and I want to know what she's hiding from the public. It actually infuriates me because West won't share it in the podcast ( he seems like a guy who won't go back on his word ) and there's no way for us to know what the secret was. Even though it's annoying, atleast it would make me read those podcast chapters with more attention to unearth that secret lol. Hope we can learn about that in the next chapters

I agree that the podcast is driving me crazy!!!!! But I think that Sadie probably was like trying to rejuvenate when she waited 6 months.... but also the crime is unthinkably terrible. This book will be on my nerves because of the podcast narration. But I think that the story will make up for it.

I agree, it would have taken time for her to think of her priorities after Mattie's death. She was pretty much alone for the most part of that six months, maybe she was devising a plan or thinking of revenge. The story is really good. There are lots of books and real life events on girls missing but this story is really unique because of the podcast narration and the environment Mattie and Sadie grew up in.
