Dan | 1675 comments Greye La Spina was one of very few female authors Weird Tales published back in its early days. She published at least fifteen stories and four letters in the magazine between 1924 and 1951 and is one of classic Weird's most highly regarded authors.

I just read a short story of hers that is on the cusp of horror and weird. It was very well written, very eerie, and really pulls a reader emotionally into the story. Titled "The Wax Doll," it was originally published in a magazine called Thriller, known as a sort of precursor to Weird Tales, its August 1, 1919 issue. It is tricky to find the story because La Spina took the unusual step (for her) of using a pseudonym, Ezra Putnam, this one and I believe only occasion of her doing so in her long lifetime of published works.
