Play Book Tag discussion

A thoughtful collection of 8 stories, all involving Haiti either in immigration from, return to or longing for home. The stories tend towards endings rather than the happier beginnings. A young woman is only just too late to meet her missing father who chose country over family. Another young man is saved when he arrives in the US by boat only to be lost due to the lack of regulations of those needing to hide in unsafe jobs. Another story "Sunrise, Sunset" show the difficulties of starting motherhood as her mother struggles at the end of motherhood. "The Gift" was such a sad but interesting meet up of two former lovers now in mourning and unable to reunite due to the losses.

The people and situations were unique and interesting with the extra layer of making it work as a Haitian in today's world. Danticat's insight into and ability to communicate such complex relationships and situations is impressive.
