Okay guys, so I'll hopefully finish TBK by the 17th, so we can start from May 18. And if you wanna start earlier, no problem and start right ahead! I'll catch up if I can :)
*spoiler alert*Okay so. First impressions. I loved Mackiel's introduction of the auction house, the one he stole from his dad. I can really envision the docks and the Jetée as well as the auction house. I thought the descriptions of the smells and everything was really good.
I felt like the descriptions of the palace and the city in general were a little bit lacking. I don't know if everything is supposed to be medieval, renaissance or urban.
Also, is anyone getting extreme divergent vibes in which we at random divide people in factions that are not practical to the general foundation of society. And is anyone missing a general military for the defence of this one island which provides ALL the food for a whole nation?
Overall I enjoyed Kera's pov. I felt like the queens perspective weren't written in a way that made me believe they were the age they were supposed to be. Especially Corra's chapter felt a bit off to me. I feel like if your whole culture is repression, you would probably not have to (conciously) struggle as much to maintain the repression. I'm not saying you wouldn't have a problem with it, but I just don't think that you would be able to give as much 'words' to your struggle.
Sad that Mackiel will probably be a minor character hahaha.
Anyway. Highlight so far:
* Kera's perspective, she seems fun although she's a bit guilt ridden
* These mysterious thugs that Mackiel hired
* Description of the auction house and the vibes from the auction house
* The idea of these memory chips
* Interesting Eonist vibes
* Description of Stessa's death mask

How do you hide spoilers via comments?
there are so much tension, anxiety, secrets-reveling. I actually can't relate myself to the book. so far, it's 3 star for me

okay guys
can somebody explain the 'finger twerking' of the inspector?
I seriously can't understand a thing and almost every character is saying/thinking about this in their POVs

ikr, like they mention it in every.freaking, page

Also. Its so weird that they mention lands outside Quadara, but it is by no means clear how they engage with those lands? Which faction would be responsible for a military in case of a war?
and i tried to like the queens differently. but they are all same and have the same thoughts and just NOT RELATBALE.

Sorry for my negative points haha. I'm having a rough time with my thesis and taking it all out on the poor four Dead Queens
and yes the relationship isn't build up, there are no chemistry. All on a sudden, they(varin and kera) love each other

Ugh I'm sorry I'm dnf'ing this. I'm just not enjoying it and with school there are too many other chores in my life right now. I read until chapter 16, but I totally share your suspicion, Ari! Hope you guys enjoy the rest of the book!

I finished chapter 25 yesterday (end of part 2). I had the same theory as Ari. Granted, it would have been pretty cliche, but I still kinda liked the idea. I did end up glancing through the contents, though, and saw the chapter headings for the last part of the book, which made me think that that theory was wrong (or she had 2 names with a weird split personality situation). I am enjoying this book more than a few others that I've read recently, but I do think you have to take it with a grain of salt for what it is.

but the ending seems messy to me, it could've been A LOT BETTER :)

I just finished it too and I also really hate Mackiel. I knew I wasn’t going to like him from the moment he was introduced, but he took it even farther than I thought he would.
