You asked for a case about the candy thief and here it is! Who do you think it is?? Why?? Build your case!
I thing the candy thief is her squad. It will take at least three or more of them to search her office. They are having fun stealing her chocolate.
I think it is Roarke. I don't remember her mentioning that the thief was around before him. He supplies her with the "real" chocolate or did she splurge before him? He is good at sneaking in and out. It is his way of keeping his hands in his favorite game.
I don't think that Robb is going to reveal who it is until the end of the series. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure she knows who the candy thief is yet.
She did splurge before Roarke. I remember her stopping at this place she bought the chocolates at. I'm not sure when the candy thievery started though. But I think Roarke is now her supplier of course.I think it's her whole squad. Might have been Peabody that let the cat of the bag of it being there and now everyone helps themselves when needed.
I truly hope we never find out. Until the last book that is.

That makes me think it is Roarke. She threw down the gauntlet so to speak.

I like that idea of Roarke being the candy thief. If anyone could be sneaky about it, it's him.
I honestly don't know. Possibilities are endless. I'm not sure Robb knows . . . yet. lol Maybe someday.
I really don't think it's Roarke. Oh he might have fun trying to find her hiding spots but actually take the candy? Nope. He wouldn't be that cruel to her. He might take the one that was there and replace it with something better or more nutritious just to say he found the spot. But leaving nothingbehind? is not his style

That's my feelings. :)
That's my feelings. :)
Michelle & Sandra, I think it is Roarke for that reason. He takes the candy so Eve will eat something healthier. He has stocked her auto-chef with nutritious food that she likes. Also, he gives her a replacement of some kind when she mentions the candy thief. I'm not convinced it is Roarke, but I like the possibility.
My other option is McNabb. I can see him and Peabody working as a tag team.

I don't think it's Roarke. I agree with others who say he would enjoy looking for the hiding places, but would not steal the candy.
He would totally trick her into eating something healthy, but I really cannot see him taking anything away from her. That would just be wrong.
I like the theory that it is the entire squad, but I also think it might be Nadine. She is often in Eve's office by herself.
I like Nadine too. She bribes the bullpen with treats and they let her any where. The reason I don't think it is anyone on her staff is because she does instill a little fear in them. Payback is a bitch as they say.
Well, I was surfing the Internet and found another In Death group (not as good as this one). They just asked the same question about the candy thief. There are more people in that group who think it is Roarke or he is somehow involved, and know who it is.
OK help me out here..Why would Roarke need to steal the candy? Yes he can and that could be a reason. Yes he wants her to have the best chocolate but then wouldn't he leave some sort of nutrition item in its place or even another better quality of candy? In fact a few times now he handed her one from his pocket when he knows she needs it and would have gone to it. Yes he is in her office all the time. Yes the candy thievery started when he came into her life. Just why would he be the candy thief?
To me it has to be someone from her squad or on her floor who knows about it and needs a pick me up. And now with all the hiding places it's become a sort of game amoung them
I don't think Roarke takes the candy to eat it or deny Eve, I believe it is a joke. He likes to tease Eve and she likes to remind him that he was a thief. Eve often mentions that she finally found a good hiding place were her stash was safe for weeks. He or whoever the candy thief doesn't steal all of her goodies. I believe Roarke can tell when Eve is using candy for a meal instead of stopping to eat real food. Roarke has stocked her office auto-chef with pizza, burgers, and Pepsi, but Eve still prefers candy for a meal.
She has candy at home for sure. Roarke often stops to get her chocolate when she tells him that her candy was stolen.
I don't expect to change anyone's mind. For me, it is a husband and wife teasing not a mean or vengeful thing.

- 'help' Eve eat something more healthy
- wife/husband teasing
- the fun of keeping his old skills alive
The first one was in my head for a long time but reading through this thread I can see how the other two fit perfectly as well.
My understanding is that J. D. Robb is not going to tell us who the CANDY THIEF is.As to who I think is the CANDY THIEF. I think IT’S HERSELF. She gets so engrossed in her work, she forgets that she ate.
No one in COP CENTRAL wouldn’t go near her office and do that if they wanted to see a new DAY.
It’s not that Roarke & Summerset don’t care about the chocolate they’re just happy she ate something.
Why should maintenance or housekeeping care? Nadine is too weight-conscious to eat chocolate.
As the guys in COP CENTRAL, Peabody and McNab know they would regret being born if she caught them with her candy.
Ok, I did miss this thread LOL.So I think the whole squad would be hilarious but sharing I have a harder time with LOL.
My thoughts is that it could be Feeney. They both hide treats in their office and he's known her longest LOL. I could say Peabody but she would break and give herself away.
I also thought either Jenkinson or Baxter. Only because they seem like the biggest jokesters of the group and been there longest.
I never thought Feeney. Only because of the almonds he's always got handy. In my mind that's those pink and white coated almonds. Just don't see him as the pure chocolate type.
Mara, I could see Eve eating her candy and forgetting if the hiding places weren't in the ceiling or taped outside on the window. Eve wouldn't forget climbing out the window. Good thought though.
I always hope that Robb will change her mind and slip in a clue in one of the books.

The identity of the candy thief remains a mystery throughout the series. Despite Eve setting traps and inventing creative hiding places, she continues to be confounded by her/him.
Given everything you know about the circumstances, who do you think it might be? Is it more than one person? Do you think Robb will identify the thief before she ends the series?
