Yes, I did make a whole folder specifically for SJM. I'll totally add other controversial female authors, but right now, I feel the need to defend SJM. I recently made a status, explaining a whole rant, so please check that out. https://www.goodreads.com/user_status...

We can also talk about it here or you can comment on the status. :)

well sjm books have it pretty much all the time (well not allll the time but like a lot) . and also like why would you skip the smut-

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

but like still i can't skip anything in a book even if it's kinda cringe ;/

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

your parents personally go to you and check whether you're reading those parts? it's not like they can control your actions

Macy I just bought the whole tog series, and honestly, I don't really care what authors write, if you don't want to read it don't, but don't pressure other to not read a book/series, that's just my stance on author controversy.

No, I totally agree. I just think the particular person who wrote that review put too much of a negative connotation on the word "zionist."

message 15: by Macy (new)

Macy Yeah, and if those are the types of novels she likes to write she should go for it. I am totally pumped to read the tog series, I've heard so much good about it (mostly read for Rowan lol)

message 16: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) If I'm being honest I haven't really looked into the controversy with her too much. I've heard people call her racist but I don't know enough about the situation to make an opinion on her. I own three of her books and I'm still going to read them no matter what because they interest me

message 17: by Macy (new)

Macy I agree. What ever floats your boat.

message 18: by Esther (new)

Esther I think when it comes to her books, they can get very annoying to read. She doesn't have diversity in any of her books, which always tends to bother me. But I know now not to expect it from her considering it is basically in none of her books.

message 19: by Macy (new)

Macy I love diverse books and I think they should be more prominent than they are, but at the same time, I personally don't think every book has to have it.

I would like to point out that Nehemia, Azriel, Rhysand, Sartaq, Yrene, Nesryn, and Cassian were all POC. Morrigan, Kaya, Thea, and Hasar were lesbians, Aedion was bi, Emrys and Malakai were gay. She also touches on mental illnesses; Aelin and Rhys have PTSD.

message 21: by Esther (new)

Esther I understand that completely. The reason it bothers me is because SJM tried to have a diverse character in ToG but that didn't end well, lol. But I can't complain too much because I have literally read every SJM book and loved almost every one of them.

oh I didn't know those characters were POC. I see a lot of Rhysand fanart and cosplays on instagram but he's always portrayed as being white :(

Ava :) I’m 14 and I read her books is that bad

The Illyrians are PoC, the characters from the Southern Continent (Yrene, Sartaq, and fam) are PoC, and Nesryn is a PoC (multiple comments about her ethnicity being a reason for ridicule when she was young).

message 25: by Ava :) (new)

Ava :) I’m pretty sure that Rhysand is white because when he was under the mountain he was described as very pale and poc don’t loose their skin color

I guess he would be considered mixed, he's only half illyrian after all

message 27: by Ava :) (new)

Ava :) Yea I think cassian is a poc and Amren too

message 28: by iris :) (new)

iris :) (xciris29) | 124 comments Mod
Oh! And Fury Axtar, Isaiah Tiberian, and Juniper Andromeda from CC are PoC

I forgot about Amren, but yes, she is.
