Fairy Tale Retellings! discussion

Hey all! This discussion thread is for other retellings that aren't fairy tales, but are retellings none the less. Retellings in here can be retelling of classics, folklore, etc...

A Viscount's Proposalby Melanie Dickerson.

It's a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, but there's its own side plots which made the book feel new and unexpected as well. Leourah is an extremely vocal feminist and is an outspoken woman who knows herself. It was great to watch her grow and learn through out the book. (Not gonna lie, I wasn't that interested in the first book so I skipped it, read this one, then went back to it haha.)

I listened to, a while back, The last letter by Mimi Matthews.

It's a Beauy and the beast theme in the victorian era, which relates the story of a scarred man and a beautiful, patient lady, both have their own trials to deal with.

I wouldn't call it a novella but it's a shorter story than the norms.

The narrator did awesome job too, in my opinion. :)

I loved it! I have the kindle version now so I hope I'll find time to read it between all the other books.

It's not an adventurous novel so some might find it a slow one, maybe.

I just saw that Mimi Matthews will have a new book out in 20th July. It's a retelling of Jane Eyre but gender flipped instead. I tried to share it but you can't share books with groups on Goodreads from Goodreads itself. WHAT!!!

I would like to read it but judging from the reviews and blurb it seems scary. Also it's a mash-up between two classics and Mimi Matthews herself has left even a spoiler comment!!! :o

I didn't read the spoiler...yet...but part of it is revealing the other classic novel. Apparently, revealing the other classic novel is spoiling the end of the book.

Hmm...I so badly want to know the other classic lol, because if it's an unhappy ending, I'm not reading it.

By the way, I realized that The Lost Letter might not qualify in this topic. It's a beauty and a beast theme but since the story didn't feel like a fairytale, I shared it. :)

I think there might be quite a few, scarred man and beauty versions out there in Victorian/regency setting but I have no idea what category they fall into.

Maybe the other book's Jane Eyre. XD I'd be scared to read the book too in that situation. Can't blame ya.

Regarding Jane Eyre, I'm wondering if it could be two Bronte's Novels that are mashed up. If so, from the darkness of the blurb, I'm pretty sure which one it is.

I read this one around Halloween: Horseman: A Tale of Sleepy Hollow by Christina Henry.

It's a retelling (continuation...?) of the Sleepy Hollow myth and though it's categorized as horror, it read WAY more like fantasy-suspense. It was pretty inventive, too!

I read and reviewed this book! It was amazing! It is a retelling of Puss in Boots.

I participated in the recent poll on the February book of the month. When are we going to do a poll on fairytale collections? I would like my book, Tales of Virtuous Stepmothers to be submitted for consideration.

I recently read a retelling of the Selkie Wife and I really enjoyed the sapphic romance. This is a story set in the 1830’s of a woman who dares to be herself in a world that’s not so understanding and shuns her who meets a woman who is kept as a prize for what she is. I laughed, I cried.
