Welcome to the Crown of Midnight Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on June 13th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

I just finished reading the recap for ToG, because I couldn’t remember anything and I’m jumping on CoM right awaaaay!! Hoping to read a lot before falling asleep :D

It's going well! Though I'm already behind on the schedule 😅 Yesterday I only read 4 chapters so my goal today is to read up to chapter 8

Ooooh, that's actually comforting as I'm totally behind as well, haha.
I'm only now reading Chapter 6 xD

Since it's just the two of us, we could just read it on our own pace, if you'd like that as well, and discuss it as we go? :D

Yes I'd like that! Especially since lately my reading pace isn't consistent 😂

I read up to chapter 8 so far! I might try to read another two chapters before I sleep.

(view spoiler)[ Chapter 5 was so sad because of the Sam reference!! Also, I do feel kind of bad for Dorian since he suspects there's something between Celeana and Chaol and he still has feelings for her.

Also, I loved reading this scene! “What is your name?” “Celaena Sardothien,” she ground out. The skull barked a laugh. “Oh, that is too funny! The funniest thing I’ve heard in centuries!” “Be quiet.” “My name is Mort, if you must know.”

One thing I noticed during this reread is that I forgot a lot of what happened in this book 😂

Just finished chapter 8, too!

Ahh, I didn't remember this was a reread for you! It's the first time I'm reading it, so I only had to remember what happened in ToG and TAB, ahaha!

(view spoiler)[ I agree, so many references to Sam and I'm so sad about it every time! One reason I didn't like TAB was what happened to poor Sam :(

Soooo, I'm pretty sure that the scene you mentioned might be a hint into what's coming with the "Aelin" stuff, haha, but I don't know how or why this will happen. Is it in this book??

Also, that doorknob was the highlight of that chapter.
And, Archer, sounds sooo coool!
Plus, I'm so happy Celaena doesn't kill her assignments as I originally thought reading those first chapters, phewww! (hide spoiler)]

Yeah I read this book back in 2014 so I barely remember anything 😂 I actually never finished this series, I stopped after book 5

I'm pretty sure in this book they do reveal more info about Aelin. It's either by the end of this book or in the third book

I'm also relieved by that! When I was first reading those chapters, I was like wow is she actually going to kill for the king?!

It was a relief, I totally agree, even though, knowing she's an assassin, I wouldn't be completely surprised...

I read up to chapter 16 today! Don't have much to comment on other than (view spoiler)[ I think its sweet how much Chaol cares about her. Also I like how she confided in Nehemia by telling her what's been going on lately. (hide spoiler)]

I'm going to state my goal for this weekend to hold myself accountable. I'm hoping to read up to 60% by Sunday night!

I just finished chapter 24th (50% through with the book, hehe) and it’s Sunday night (well, 2am) over here so not really sure how much more I’m going to read tonight, haha!

But, from what I’ve read so far (view spoiler)[ oooh, Chaoool and Celaena, oooh 🤩🤩 not invested, I know I know, but they’re so cute right now, hehe. I’m so curious to see how everything will go now.
Especially since that fight with Nehemia just showed us that Celaena isn’t yet the leader people want to find in Aelin. 🤔
Also, Dorian has ancient magic?? Interesting interesting 🧐 (hide spoiler)]

Fortunately I made it to my goal last night! I read up to chapter 33.

Major spoilers!! (view spoiler)[ Even though I already knew what was going to happen, Nehemia's death was so tragic!! 😭 And the fact that both Celeana and Nehemia had a fight before this event happen is really sad! (hide spoiler)]

Yeah their relationship is really cute!
The aftermath of that fight will be revealed within the next couple of chapters.
Dorian's magic is very interesting! It wasn't until my reread did I notice that Nehemia knew what Dorian had and was ready to help him

I can’t wait to find out who Nehemia is and how she knows all that much!! I also suspect she knows who Celaena/Aelin is?? Ugh, I can’t wait to read more!!

I read up to chapter 39 last night. All of a sudden I'm motivated to read so I'll probably finish this tomorrow at this rate 😂

I've fallen a little behind on my reading because I've had some obligations, but I hope to finish it within this week, preferably asap, too!

I just read up to chapter 33, too, and all I have to say is (view spoiler)[ NOOOOOOOO!!! Indeed it was so tragic and I’m so so sad, until the last moment I had some small hope that perhaps she wouldn’t die 😭 Poor Celaena!
And, also Chaol, admittedly, made some wrong decisions and I just can’t understand why he’s so loyal to that abomination of a king 😰 (hide spoiler)]

Ok, I just had to read more 🥲
So, up to chapter 40 (view spoiler)[ everything’s so so sad, but at the same time we’re getting closer to a quest, to finding out more about everything, although the way this chapter ends... I just have to read at least 1 more chapter 😅
Also, Chaol almost found out who Celaena really is (?) but I still can’t understand if she remembers it, aaaah, I just have to know now 😂 (hide spoiler)]

Yeah that's one thing I don't understand about Chaol... I do feel bad for him though!

Agreed! I like how these past few chapters we started to get some more answers

I recently finished chapter 49 and (view spoiler)[ I forgot that Chaol realized Celeana was fae in this book!! (hide spoiler)]

And I'm done! Really enjoyed my reread :)

I feel so bad about Chaol, too... He's such a good person (even though he was blindly loyal to that king until now) and he's loved Celaena so much. I hope they can at least be friends, again :(

Today I finished the book, as well, and it was SO good!! I was totally not expecting this. I also loved all the action and Dorian is also an adorable character, ahhh! I can't wait to find out what happens next :D

:)) Yes yes! I have a few other BRs as well, but I'm anxious to read the next book asap, so I will make it work, haha!
