What did you think of Celaena as the protagonist?

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I know a lot of people have a problem with Celaena being "too girly" but that's something I love about her. Just because she is an assassin doesn't magically mean she isn't a girl anymore and can't appreciate girly things or want to look pretty. I love that she is sassy and looks fabulous while kicking some ass.

Kelsey (niceisneat) | 9 comments I think she's great too. I love how competitive she is and how she gets so angry that she can't show everyone how skilled she is. It's such a nice flaw to give someone. I really appreciate that she isn't stoic and quiet like most fantasy assassins are.

Nicole (a-novel-thing) I think Celaena is pretty awesome, and I usually don't like lead female protagonists. I usually end up liking the secondary characters (which this book also has plenty of). I really like that she enjoys chocolates and books. That's just ... awesome. Not to mention the pretty dresses. I was discussing this with a person at work that I'm reading this with and we both seem to agree. It's the little feminine touches Maas gave Celaena that really make her seem "real" or relatable.

Kylee (kyleeraereader) Agreed, Celaena seems so realistic to me because she has so many flaws. I feel like Sarah J. Maas could have just made some amazing super woman assassin, which is hard for any of us to relate to. But she made me realistic and grounded by giving her flaws and showing how under her reputation, she is still just a girl.

Celaena is one of my favourite heroines! While I think that it's great she can fight, I also love her girly side. It shows that she is more than simply a boring assassin and made her character so much more interesting.
