I want to enter a writing competition for a short story, but the maximum word count is 1000 and I'm not sure I can manage that. ( I know this isn't a story, but....)
I have 503 and I'm not even at the conflict yet😭😭. I'm going to write the whole thing and then edit and see if I can cut it down ( not likely) or I just won't enter, because 1000 words is just unrealistic
Honestly, the best way, I've realized is to try writing a 100-word story. See if it doesn't exceed that. Or just write and don't pay attention to the word count.
I'm doing the second option, because I will never be able to write a story in 100 words. I'm barely able to write a 100 word summary
Brooke wrote: "I'm doing the second option, because I will never be able to write a story in 100 words. I'm barely able to write a 100 word summary"exactly! It will exceed. Today I tried the method and I ended up writing an 800 word story instead.
That's good! I don't think whoever wrote these rules understands how little a 1000 words actually is
There are plenty writing competitions out there, Brooke. Flash fiction is very hard to write if you’re an overwriter (like me). I suggest writing your story. Don’t pay attention to the word count. As some people say, the longer the story, the better it must be! (For some cases, there is an exception. I’m sure you’ve dnfed some long books.) So yeah. I always find myself shortening my stories. You just have to look around to find what works for you!
I don't think I'm an over writer, I just can't fit my whole story in that tiny of a box. So yeah, I'll write it and now that you've mentioned it I should go looking for some other competitions
Sounds awesome! There are plenty great ones out there. You just have to find the one that works best!
**Everyone: just beware here when posting your writing. Although Jillian and I will try our best to make everyone understand that work posted is the author’s work entirely, we can’t guarantee that your work is entirely safe. We hope that people will be respectful of your work and help you along the way. WITH THAT SAID, PLEASE DO NOT SHARE MAJOR PIECES OF YOUR STORY. SMALL SNIPPETS OR SUMMARIES WILL DO. There are other groups where you can post your whole story and get helpful feedback. Writing is just not the primary focus of this group. It is welcome, but in small pieces at your own risk.**

Yes, thank you, Emary. I love reading and hearing about your writing but someone may steal it which I would hate to see happen. So please, post parts that you want, but just come knowingly. I haven't heard of anyone stealing pieces, but there is always a risk.I don't mean for any of this to scare anyone off! Please, share what you want!
i have wrote a whole bunch of stories i will share them tomorrow
