Finished Part 1 and quite a lot has happened already. I truly cannot imagine living in the war zone of Syria. I have to keep reminding myself that this is real and not dystopia with the checkpoints, death as a constant, violence and hostility in daily life. I mean who arrests a dead body? The writing is different without any real breaks or formatting to switch POV but I really like it. He's portrayal of the siblings and there complex relationships with each other are so perfect.
I am halfway through the second part and it’s so unbelievable the journey they are enduring with bombs going off and air raids just so they can fulfill their dads wishes. To be that numb to war that it’s normalized and the fear that they were living with on a daily basis is heartbreaking.
Just finished Part 2 and it was a bit rougher and less of the so absurd that its kind of funny feeling of Part 1. The siblings are deteriorating as fast as the body which is sad to see in a setting that is already destroyed. The history of the first loves and the sister were interesting but definitely a man's perspective. I really hope they all make it.
