Crofton had, strangely enough, stayed almost completely silent the entire walk to the glacier. Maybe he’d taken it to heart when they’d told him to be quiet. Or, taking a good look at him, maybe he’d mostly passed through delirious and went into just plain exhausted.
Kitt walked right by Crofton's side in case the boy fell down, not wanting one of his two allies taking a long fall down a steep, slippery glacier. "So where are we even stopping here?" he asked Vincent after a moment.
((Ahhhh sorry!))
Vincent walked ahead of the two, keeping a slow but reasonable pace. They couldn't afford to die by falling off a glacier. "I don't know exactly," he said, frowning. "We should be able to find a crevice or some sort of area along the path up to the glacier - there's no way we'll be able to reach the top of it, anyways. We find a place to rest."

((Sorry! I didn’t have internet for a few days and only managed to get on for a few minutes those days but I’m back now kinda))
“Maybe there’s a cave or something?” Crofton suggested. “There might be a tunnel system - that sounds like something the gamemakers would throw in. Maybe.”

Kitt nodded in response to both of them, but was now unusually silent. He'd only applied catmint to one of his scrapes, and that was only an astringent, so wouldn't prevent infection, and now both his elbow and his knee were really starting to bother him. He was limping a little, and he silently prayed that it wasn't becoming infected. An infected wound had taken out his older sister, and god forbid it took him out, too.
Vincent stopped at a small cave on the path, leading the way in. "Goldenboy, you sure your scrapes are okay? We can at least wash them out with glacier water, although it'll be cold," he suggested.
“Yeah, you look like shit.” Crofton told him bluntly. It wasn’t like he looked much better, but one injured ally in their trio was enough.
"Shut up, Crofton, don't be a dick," Kitt replied sharply, clearly not in the mood to be told that. "And that's really rich coming from you, who not only looks like sh*t but was f*cking delirious earlier." He sighed testily, then looked up at Vincent. "I guess that wouldn't hurt," he admitted. He couldn't even pretend he wasn't worried about them being infected, considering what had happened to Rubia. "Kneeling in the dirt with a fresh wound probably wasn't the best idea, but I'm not about to die this early in the Games from f*cking infected scrapes."
"You both look like shit," Vincent remarked, taking a chunk of ice from the wall of the cave. He handed it over to Kitt and said "you can use that, although there's plenty more where it came from."
This whole...encounter, their alliance, it was a little unnerving.
He hadn't expected to have an ally at all, let alone be reasonably friendly with them.
It reminded him too vividly of Theo, though he didn't give a shit about him anymore. When Vincent won the games, he'd go back to district one and track him down.
And then he'd finish him off for good.

“Exactly. There’s only room for one fucked up ally at a time, goldenboy.” Crofton joked. “We can’t just make Vincent deal with both our dumbasses, so keep yourself healthy.” He definitely hadn’t expected them all to be as tight-knit as they were, but he wasn’t complaining. The only thing he was complaining about - internally, obviously - was that they were both as pretty as they were. Maybe they just took better care of themselves in the career districts, but damn if it didn’t make Crofton at least a little flustered. “Plus I’d miss you if you died before I did.”
Kitt rolled his eyes so hard it looked like he was going to pass out, just to make sure both of them saw. "Brilliant. Thanks, both of you," he said sarcastically. Secretly, though, he was fighting off a smile as he took the ice from Vincent – not before breaking off a chunk to throw at him for his remark, of course – and pressed it to his knee. He was finding himself caring about his allies more than he thought he would, and it didn't help that they were both extremely attractive. He was just about to shove that thought from his mind when suddenly, he heard Crofton speak again, and what he said startled him and made his heart flutter in a way it hadn't before. Clearing his throat before speaking, he awkwardly stammered, "O-oh, um...thanks..." and fidgeted slightly.
((Sorry, I'm going to be on a plane for a while and won't be able to post until tomorrow at the earliest! If Rue's available, maybe she can post first?))
Vincent smirked, sensing a shift in the tension specifically coming from Kitt. "You alright there, goldenboy?"
He glanced again around the cave, setting their things down near the corner and settling down against the wall. "Speaking of, we should probably find another hideout in the morning. This is just a temporary resting spot, got it? It'll be too cold and isolated here if we stay for long. No materials around."

Kitt rolled his eyes. "I'm fine," he spat back, seemingly back to his normal, cold self. He nodded in agreement, then ran a hand through his soft, blonde hair before asking, "So, we're going to stay here tonight?"
"Probably." Crofton thought for a moment. "I've read that some dogs dig deep holes in the snow and sleep in them, since their body heat stays trapped in there with them to keep them warm. It might work." He glanced at the other two, waiting for their opinions on the idea.
Kitt, who'd grown up in a very warm District with no snow, raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Keep warm by burying ourselves in snow? You know, I'm not sure if you're aware, but snow is cold."
Vincent, having grown up in 1, had had his fair share of snowstorms but he'd never needed to go that far - every house in the district had at least some form of heating, as far as he was aware. "You can try," he said to Crofton, piercing green eyes fixated on a random spot in the cave wall.
"Yes, Kitt, I know snow is cold." Crofton deadpanned. He'd grown up in a district with freezing winters, and he knew how to handle cold weather. "Do you have a better idea? The trees are too wet to start a fire, and it'd be a real shame if two of the golden career boys died of the cold." He nodded to Vincent and looked around, trying to scope out somewhere that might be protected enough from the wind. "If we get on the other side, the glacier could be a sort of shield from the breeze. That'll help with the temperature."
Kitt glared back at Crofton, his arms crossed, and stayed silent. His eyes followed Vincent's gaze to the nearby cave. "Why don't we just go there? I'm sure pretty boy and I can make it over there, can't we?" He gave Crofton a pointed look. Although his own leg hurt, he'd rather bear it and make it to the cave than risk burying himself in snow and dying that way. God, even just thinking about it made it sound pathetic, much less actually doing it.
