billie (billiecollins) | 22 comments I know I’m kind of late to the game, but hopefully that’s okay? I also hope I’m doing this right! If anyone has any book suggestions I would LOVE for you to share them with me!

Welcome, Billie! It's absolutely okay that you're starting mid-year: most people go January 1 to December 31, but plenty start later in the year or go for a different set of start&end dates. And it looks like you got your list started right!

If you're looking for book recs, in addition to people leaving some for you here, check out others' lists: lots of us review our books in our lists, or sometimes you just see a title that intrigues you. What kind(s) of books are you looking for, or what do you like to read?

billie (billiecollins) | 22 comments Tiffany - I’m big on dystopian science fiction (I’m finishing up The Handmaid’s Tale right now) and lgbt reads (esp lesbian literature). Next on my list is The Queen’s Gambit though, since I put it down for a bit to read The Handmaid’s Tale so I guess you could say book to screen reads. I also like classic horror/psychological thriller books ie I have a lot of Shirley Jackson sitting on my shelf. I love reading books by black women too, Tomi Adeyemi is one of my faves. I As you can see I’ve read Moxie so anything like that too. I guess the only thing I’m not a HUGE fan of is romance novels that aren’t LGBTQ+ haha. That’s probably more than you were asking so I’ll look through other threads.
Thank you so much for making me feel welcome, I was nervous since it is June but I thought I’d try it out.

PS - I’ve read more than Moxie this year that’s just the only one I can remember so I hope that’s ok. I have a messy bookshelf.

21 still sounds good! Any particularly good ones? Which was your favorite?

billie (billiecollins) | 22 comments Tiffany - HOO that's a loaded question! (I think 21 is decent, especially since I started in June and flipping my life upside down) If you mean out of the last ones The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Imperfect Women and Bad Girls Never Say Die (which I read from beginning to end the day it came out if that says anything). Overall, my two favorite books were One Last Stop and TSHOEH (of course, the one book EVERYBODY read this year). I honestly couldn't choose between the two. Also, I 500000% recommend The Shining Girls, especially to start off your year since it's going to be a mini series on Apple TV in...March? I think? It's kind of murder mystery but also dystopian-ish in one, I would more say not your typical crime/mystery book. Premise wise it's The Time Traveler's Wife if Henry was a serial killer and Claire was his only surviving victim but it ends there story line wise (he has control over his time traveling and is aware from the beginning etc etc, there's other elements too). It's kinda mind f*** (if that's okay to say, it's really the only way to describe it) that bent my brain so I can't wait to see what it's like visually/on screen.
OH! and I'm a huge THT fan (book and show, THT this year was a re-read since I wanted to read the sequel, and the tv series is obviously not exactly page to screen) so The Testaments as well. I know people have mixed feelings about it, but I really enjoyed it. I really liked that Atwood went more in depth to June's daughters and where they ended up (esp since - if you watch the show - we'll probably only see her Holly/Nichole/Nicole/Daisy, her youngest daughter, as a baby and toddler and Hannah/Agnes was already past the toddler stage when she was taken away from her) and that **SPOILER** they do eventually meet like June says to Holly/Nichole/Nicole when she's born in the show. (her two children have like 85 names each, so sorry if you've read the book and haven't seen the show or vice versa)

If that was tl; dr (sorry!!)
favorite: tie between The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and One Last Stop
also loved:
The Miseducation of Cameron Post
Imperfect Women
Bad Girls Never Say Die
The Testaments
