Mary Rose is a 1920 play by J.M. Barrie that was Hitchcock's longtime obsession, but never came to be, for various reasons. It is an eerie story about a girl who disappeared twice, and reappeared again, first time weeks later and second time decades later, but not a day older. If you can't find it, read a modern retelling of the story, Mary Rose by Geoffrey Girard. Of course, you can read both if you like :)

The play was often produced in the theaters - the last big revival was in London 2012. There are some TV movies made from 1939 to 1961, however nothing afterwards. Who knows, maybe someone takes an interest in it now ;) Do tell us if you've seen the play in the theater, or watched any of the films!

There is a nice article about the play in the Guardian: Forgotten plays: No 10 – Mary Rose (1920) by JM Barrie

For curious ones, on The Alfred Hitchock Wiki you can read the second draft of the movie Hitchcock intended to make: Script: Mary Rose (1964)

I hope you'll like this play! Freely share your thoughts and impressions here.

Finished yesterday. 3 stars (I'm sure I would enjoy the performance much more than the reading): https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Jennifer Lafferty | 40 comments This book is very captivating although it's quite a bit different from the original play. It's also more of a horror story than I would have expected. It would be interesting to see what Hitchcock would have done with it but hard to imagine as Hitchcock film. I found an recording of the play on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWhpE...
