Inferno BOTM
Some general questions to help incite discussion. Feel free to answer as many as you'd like.•Did you enjoy the book? Why? Why not?
•Did you feel that the book fulfilled your expectations? Were you disappointed?
•What did you think of the characters? Could you relate to them or no?
- Who were your favorite characters?
- Who were your least favorite characters?
I can't say I didn't enjoy Inferno...It's just that most part of the book I was seeing blood-red because of Casy. How much can you want to kill a fictional caracter?Of course, my favorite character was Adarian. He overcame every idea everyone had of him by surrendering his own powes and dying to protect Cherise.
Again. Damn Casy. I hate you little poisoning girl. Even if it wasn't "she" the one that was talking. Well if I see it that way I guess my least favorite was Zarelda. I don't care if she was trying to save her brother.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book. But like I said before, I find that I like each successive book better than the previous books in this series. =)Here, we got another rendition of the story of the original Malachai, this time with Ash's input. Verrrry interesting. =)
LOL, Nicole. I agree, Casey was ... something. XD Really makes me wonder how it would have all gone down if Casey had been herself, instead of being possessed by Zarelda (especially since Ambrose had dated Casey during high school in the original timeline). But at least I'm pretty sure now that Zarelda/Casey was the "corrupter" that was spoken of, way back in Invincible.
And how about that kiss that Simi gave Nick? =)
I agree, Adarian was awesome at the end, there. I feel like he sort of redeemed himself there, dying to protect Cherise.
And I feel that one of the most epic scenes in the book was when Caleb discovered something about Kody's parentage. =)
Yeah I've thought about that. I know it wasn't Kody so it has to be her.Wth?? That kiss was WOW. What happened there Sim?? You wanna make Ash kills Nick's mama on accident again?
Yeah! I was like O.O she is WHAT? (the first time I read it of course) but I wouldn't have imagined. And I remember that Illusion is even better on that subject. Kody talks about her family and her brothers
I've never understood what made her kiss him like that? She's had plenty of chances.. i believe it's either the cool new threads or his Demon Glamour.
Hey did you notice that Nick actually had a vission of him/Ambrose with Tiyana? If that is happening, the whole future's already changed. He won't be a DH and Tiyana is not going to die...But, what with Kody? Where does she fit in all of this?
Couldn't Nick just have been dating her in the run up to 'seize the night' and that's what he saw? The funniest part of this book is the Demon Glamour, you don't know when it will strike but it will....
It says that she was the one he was meant to marry later on in the series. IIRC it was in Katras book.
I don't think they were exclusive but i think they were on the verge. Another misery on Ambroses list of miseries.I think what Nick saw happened to DH Nick not the future CON Nick.
Just the excerpt...I don't want to know more! I mean, I want to but I want to read it when I have it in my hand xD Did ya read the summary of Invision?

I'm going with the cool new threads. XD
If I remember correctly from the official site, Simi kinda has/had the hots for Nick. =)
oh yes! Its really good!Haha i do not have your self restraint im afraid ive read both and want more :B
Didn't in Illusion say that Simi found someone? I don't know if I got it right but that's what I think...More more more! Right now!
Ohhh that little annoying being hahaha that would be great. But I feel bad for him. Ash is very protective of his daughter
Y'know, Asmodeus had never crossed my mind as a potential husband for Simi before ... but now that I think about it, that would be awesome. And hilarious. XDBut yeah, it was stated in Illusion that Simi eventually got married. Apparently Ash mellowed out in his (much) later years. =)
Speaking of later years ... how about the glimpses into the future that we saw throughout the book? Like when Ambrose saw himself on that killing spree, or when he went Malachai, or seeing Artemis hiding from him ...
Ohh I have to admit that watching Artemis all scared wasn't as pleasant as it would have been had I read it before she helped Ash's son to get birth. I kind of not-hate-her-so-much now...and the fact that she cares ab we Ambrose doesn't really help either
When reading about Artie in hiding, what I found very, very sad was that it wasn't until then, that she fully realized just how selfish she'd been over the years.
Okay as usual can't quite recall all the events of this book. But from what I'm reading from the comments, this was the one I did feel bad for Artie. Cause it sort of reminded me of how she was with Apollo. Which to me means more bad news for Nick/Ambrose in the future. A scared Artie means a even more creative Artie when it comes to handling things/people that scare her.I was also heartbroken when all our beloved characters pretty much were on the front lines fighting against Ambrose and wanting to kill him. Dude that's like your whole family wanting to see you strung up or something.
And yea this was the one where Caleb revealed he worked with Bathymaas or something, right?
Whoever Simi has married has to be a true boss. Cause I doubt not just Ash would let her be with him, but her sister as well.
You are right Cherale. And Artemis has a little help, from someone that called her "sister" if I remember correctly. Oh my God! When Tabby says: I WAS married to a Roman general:( Val!!! Not Valerius!
Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* wrote: "You are right Cherale. And Artemis has a little help, from someone that called her "sister" if I remember correctly. Oh my God! When Tabby says: I WAS married to a Roman general:( Val!!! Not Valerius!"Yeah, I'm really wondering just which ancient god of Order it was, in that scene where Artie was called "little sister". 'Cause I'm quite sure it ain't Bethany. Maybe it's Zev?
I would love, love, LOVE to see Caleb meet up with Bethany and Styxx in the modern-day DH world, mainly because I think there would be a considerable amount of shock. (I know, I live for weird stuff. XD)
Something else in the book about Artie that really struck me, was when she questioned why her blood exchange with Nick didn't stop him from going Malachai. It seemed like she'd honestly thought that she was saving the world by doing that. (And I'm guessing it didn't work since Ambrose really didn't love her. What do y'all think?)
I think she was basing that on the premise that she'd been making Ash drink her blood in order for him to not go Harbinger. I imagine that Artie figured if it worked for Ash, it would work for Ambrose.
Ohhh now I get it. Hey hold on. Ash didn't love her either. I think he just didn't want to end the world. He cares about humans. Not something we could say about the Malachai.
LOL, very true, Nicole. =)Plus, I don't think that Artie realized that she was dealing with two different situations here. When she brought Ash back to life, he had to feed from the one who brought him back (at least, until Apollymi gave Tory a loophole ;D). And you're right, the fact that Ash cares about humans likely plays a huge part in that.
Ambrose, on the other hand, gave up his soul, so he wasn't brought back to life in the same manner that Ash was. And there's probably another piece of the puzzle here, that we haven't seen yet (or else figured out).
You know ever since I met Ash I've wondered how he was going to break free from Artemis. When Apollymi gave Tory that power...God, I've always loved the Destroyer but on that moment she was the best that could have happened to them both.I weep over what happened to Cherise. She was probably the kindest person ever born and she sure as hell didn't deserve the end she had
Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* wrote: "Ohhh now I get it. Hey hold on. Ash didn't love her either. I think he just didn't want to end the world. He cares about humans. Actually I think Ash said in his own words many times to Artie that he did love and care for her. But she kept letting him down. And when it went to the point of not only her brother calling him a whore and then watching as his father torturing and castrating him as discipline, not only cause of a slight against him(father), and because Artie wanted to see to him punished for something too. That literally killed their love right there.
Hmm, could be anybody, as I thought I read once in actual myths there are quite a few Gods and Goddesses that are older than Apollo and Artie. So maybe could have been someone that was hidden away some how.
I know Ash said that he loved her some times. More than I would have liked. But I know, that love is dead, thank heaven for that!Really? Caleb? I think he is pretty awesome. And he truly cares about Nick too so...he can't be that bad
Yea, I believe she was his true first love. But Artie ruined that in more ways than one.I like Caleb in the CON world true enough. But have to remember this is prequel/alternate world Caleb that likes/is working with Nick. Who knows what or who might change that over in the main series for Caleb to feel a different way.
Mmm if he never was under the orders of Adarian to protect him...but in House of the Rising Son he was decent. I mean, at least to me. He was still mourning his wife but he trained Aricles and the others
I have always hated Artemis but truthfully now im kind of fond of her. She seems to be changing and she seems to be getting nicer after each new book. According to Ash it was Nicks influence.I know Nick is going to probably end up with Kody but i feel a little sorry for Artie all the men she seems to love tend to leave her..
Besides after Styxx im very, very careful about who i judge ;)
(Is it just me or is Nick building a little harem in this series)
True. But that is still another alternate version of him. I think til we see how he is living and doing in the main timeline and who he is running with lately, can't be too sure. And most especially as he was around kid Nick in their time period. But in the main one, Nick is grown man, raised by a whole bunch of other folks that even Caleb doesn't know about. So never know how he would feel or react to them after being hooked up with Adarian and other Nick for so long(even if against his will).
Slick wrote: "I have always hated Artemis but truthfully now im kind of fond of her. She seems to be changing and she seems to be getting nicer after each new book. According to Ash it was Nicks influence.I kn..."
I'll just say Artie is evolving for the time being. Still can't say nice without bursting out laughing. Haha, see the very thought alone gets me going.
It would be a double whammy if he did end up with Kody. Cause in the main series he lost one possible love. And we already know Kody's other secret, other than whom all she is related to. So I don't think that will be a lasting relationship for long per se. I actually think once all is resolved, she might disappear in that famous ball of light.
Nick and a harem? For most they would just say that is usual Nick like behavior lol.
Definitely we have to think twice before we judge someone in the future Slik hahaAnd yeah, I agree Cherale, we'll have to *cringing* wait.
Artie is incapable of using the gray matter between her ears. She takes action as if there will be no consequences. Which is why she screws up just about everything she touches.I don't feel sorry for her, and I still don't like her. No matter what all she does to help, it won't erase the past.
Of course it wont...but maybe...just maybe after all that happened with Ash she is learning something...
Artie probably has finally learned something, but at this point in time, she's still pretty much a day late and a dollar short. Personally, I'm thinking that her mistakes didn't really and truly sink in until Nick went Malachai on her in the distant (original) future.Still, it's interesting that in the later DH books, she has her moments of ... hmmm, I'm not sure what word I'm looking for, here. Rationality, perhaps, or maturity? You know, those times where her words and actions go completely against what we've seen of her. Where Ash wonders, "Who are you and what have you done with Artemis?"
And speaking of Nick and a harem ... you know, I'm wondering if he hooks up with so many women because he's trying to find that one that will give him a sense of peace, like Kody seems to give him every time she kisses him.
While it seems kind of unlikely at this point in time in the series, I'm thinking--okay, hoping is a better word here--that Kody will end up with Nick, one way or another. (I have three possible theories on that.)
It is a bit strange, though, that Tiyana's shop was basically invisible to Nick until Caleb took him there. I'm still trying to figure out the significance of that, and this might sound weird, but ... I'm uncomfortable with the thought of Nick and Tiyana hooking up. No clue why, I just am. I know a few fans have speculated that perhaps Kody is Tia reincarnated ... and I'm not sure I like that thought, either.
You're right, Dhfan, Caleb is likely to be quite different in the DH books than he is in the CON books. Still, I would love to see him make a full-blown modern day appearance in the DH books, and meet Styxx and Bethany. Even if it doesn't go remotely pleasant, muahaha. >:D
I'm wondering if he hooks up with so many women because he's trying to find that one that will give him a sense of peaceOoh! That's a great theory, Charlotte. It totally jives with his hidden Malachai in early DH too.
Exactly, Rachel. If the scene from One Silent Night is any indication, Nick seems to go to great lengths to be romantic with his women. (rose petals on the bed, etc.) Plus, he admits in later books that he's with Artemis for a sense of peace ... and I don't think it's just to get away from Stryker. On a side note, I remember reading on FB some weeks back, where someone asked about Nick being a womanizer ... and Carl defended Nick, basically saying that many of these women could have been using him. To say the least, I found that intriguing. =)

Nick has his driver's license and he's not afraid to use it. But turning sixteen isn't what he thought it would be. While other boys his age are worried about prom dates and applying for college, Nick is neck deep in enemies out to stop him from living another day. No longer sure if he can trust anyone, his only ally seems to be the one person he's been told will ultimately kill him.
But life spent serving the undead is anything except ordinary. And those out to get him have summoned an ancient force so powerful even the gods fear it. As Nick learns to command and control the elements, the one he must master in order to combat his latest foe is the one most likely to destroy him. As the old proverb goes, fire knows nothing of mercy, and if Nick is to survive this latest round, he will have to sacrifice a part of himself. However, the best sacrifice is seldom the sanest move. Sometimes it's the one that leaves your enemies confused.
And sometimes, you have to trust your enemy to save your friends. But what do you do when that enemy is you?
