hopefully by next monday ill be free, so ill try to start around then! thanks for the suggestion! :)
oh! in that case, maybe i can listen to it while i work on my finals, thanks for letting me know! despite listening to audiobooks regularly, i always forget audiobooks are an option lol
i really liked this. the length is my biggest gripe about it, actually lol. i think so much could have been done with this setting and these characters!! the world could have been built upon and i would have loved to have gotten the empress' point of view. i adored her character. in my mind, she looked like princess yue from atla jgdsgh
im on the fence about the length! on one hand, its short and sweet and pretty concise with the narration of the story (and its nice to know whats going on without having to wait for 300 pages to go by), but on the other hand, there are so many details i would love to know more about; like with Rabbit and Sukais relationship, or more about Empress In-Yos scheming behind the closed doors. I love Rabbits perspective a lot, though, and i love the twist!
hey guys! I'm emma and i'd love to join your book club! super excited about the next reads and can't wait to talk about them with you :)
hey guys! unsure what the situation is, but it looks like Claire deactivated her account. Im sure everything is okay, but if anyone is in close contact with her, please let her know we miss her!As for this next months read, lets continue on with Honey Girl and start On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous starting Aug 1st. as the group desc implies, start and finish at your own pace.
Happy Reading!
okay, so i listened to honey girl on audiobook in the fist half of this month, so don't mind me if i get some details wrong lmao. but uh i really loved this book. so much of it felt so real to me. grace's struggle to find meaning in her degree and celebrate her accomplishments is relevant to my life story, i don't know about you guys.her strained relationship with both her parents (who are on opposite sides of the parental spectrum) felt realistic, too. so often we see "the perfect parents" in stories and film, which is nice but the reality is that humans are often very dysfunctional lol. and i don't believe the perfect parent exists period. not only did we get to see them in their worst light, but i loved getting to be in grace's head as she struggled to come to terms with the people they actually are. that journey was so important to me when i was reading this! even more so was the huge support group that grace had. her friends were truly her found family and that always (when done convincingly) makes my heart ache in the best way.
and then there's yuki!!! i need a yuki in my life. i do wish we got to see more of yuki's personality because she was just an absolute joy to me. she really softened grace's sharp edges and was so uniquely herself. also, i adored the idea of the podcast, the monster hunting, and her philosophies probably too much.
anyway this is long, but just know that i cried at least five times reading this book lmao. easily a five star read for me.
couldnt have said it better myself! this was a really sweet book. i dont like romance most of the time, so i was prepared to be really bored, but it was just so heartwarming and fun that i found myself really enjoying it. i found myself relating to Grace a lot in her interactions with her father, which was admittedly a little jarring because of the similarities with my own
i really liked how human and real the author made everyone in the book, too. even though we see Yuki’s friends for a short time, you feel like you got to know them! this was an excellent suggestion!
