The Tower of Babel is the greatest marvel in the world. Immense as a mountain, the ancient Tower holds unnumbered ringdoms, warring and peaceful, stacked one on the other like the layers of a cake. It is a world of geniuses and tyrants, of airships and steam engines, of unusual animals and mysterious machines.

Soon after arriving for his honeymoon at the Tower, the mild-mannered headmaster of a small village school, Thomas Senlin, gets separated from his wife, Marya, in the overwhelming swarm of tourists, residents, and miscreants.

Senlin is determined to find Marya, but to do so he'll have to navigate madhouses, ballrooms, and burlesque theaters. He must survive betrayal, assassins, and the long guns of a flying fortress. But if he hopes to find his wife, he will have to do more than just endure.

This quiet man of letters must become a man of action.

Hey Quirks. Just wanted to let you know that im almost done with and I'll be starting Senlin Ascends as soon as i finish. Might be late tonigjt or early tomorrow. Excited to start this one!! :)

Chapter 3
(view spoiler)[I'd expected that it'd take some time for Senlin's wife to get lost. But it happened almost immediately, and so casually! That bodes well for the pace of the book. (hide spoiler)]

I started yesterday. Finished Part 1 Chapters 1- 15 (view spoiler)[ Wow im really loving this book. It sucked me in right away and the plot took off pretty quickly. I love the writing and the tower is so fascinating. The world building is incredible and everything is so vividly described that i feel like im watching a movie.
The basement was crazy. Thieves, beggars and tricksters. Man Senlin is off to a rough start. He lost his wife, lost his luggage and then got robbed twice and beat up.

The parlor was insane. Im still not sure what to think about the whole thing. Was everything an act? Because parts of it felt so real!! Just so bizzare that the guy killed the other guy during a play. I cant tell what was real and what wasnt bc of that comment at the end. Very interesting.

I also love all the characters that Senlin has met along the way. I really trusted Adam! Didnt expect him to be a thief. I absolutely loved Goll, man he was so funny. And the beer me go round! How unique!! And poor Edith. I really felt for her. Whats up with the fires anyways?!

Ive been completely absorbed and loving every minute of this book. While i typically read books with more fantasy elements this book is just so entertaining. I also love the flashbacks of his past with Marya, you can really see that he loves her. When he gifted her the piano. Oh my heart!!! I really am hoping that he finds her! Obviously there is more to all the missing people. Where do they go? Is the tower stealing them?? (hide spoiler)]

50% (view spoiler)[ this quest to find his wife really has me captivated. I keep guessing what has happened to her. In the very beginning i had guessed that she jad been stolen and then he found the wifemongers book and now with Ogiers account im sure thats probably what happened. I do love all of the little adventures in this book. The heist for the painting was especially fun. And the darker side of the tower has me intrigued. I was also really sad to see Tarrou become a hod. I really liked him, but to be honest im glad the story moved on from their nights drinking in the baths because i was starting to get bored of the repetition. Im wondering if there is a more nefarious plot at play here. The whole towerr seems to have dark sides to it, but the baths kind of lull people into a false sense of luxury. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8
(view spoiler)[The Parlour is basically cosplay. Except you don't get to choose your role and, in Senlin's case, don't actually want to be here.

As for Senlin's wife, I feel like she left him on purpose. Part of me even wonders if she only married him to get to the Tower. Maybe she's been here before and wanted to get back but couldn't on her own? (hide spoiler)]

Finished! 5 Stars (view spoiler)[ i really like that when working as the portmaster he started to run back into all the characters that he had met in his previous adventures and the way all the plot lines came together at the end was incredible! I knew Adam would betray him, he kept asking about the painting way too much, but at the same time i understand why he did it. I love all the shady characters and all the adventures senlin went on. I really love how the the tower makes it so you cant trust anyone but the only way senlin got by was by trusting people and making real friends. I also loved that this book explored the lengths people will go for those that they love the most. I loved all the vivid descriptions and this wild adventurous book was such a unique read. I am a little disappointed that he didnt find his wife by the end of the book though, but i also kind of suspected that he wouldnt. (hide spoiler)]

I've only made it 13% in but I'm super interested!
I noticed the currency in this world is shekels, we use shekels in my home so I was super excited for that lol, the world seems pretty awesome so far, hoping to like it!

(view spoiler)[I'm really enjoying the book as well. The Tower is so mysterious and interesting. And I agree about the Parlor. It's hard to be sure what part of it was an act. Some of the people here are completely insane. (hide spoiler)]

Part 2 Chapter 12
(view spoiler)[The Tower seemed to get more fucked up the more you learn about it. I can't help but wonder if there's some way the tower keeps people from leaving. Also, the whole thing with the hod, the Red Hand, and the wifemongers, it's so messed up. I feel terrible for Marya. And I feel bad for initially thinking she may have run from Senlin on purpose.
