I re-read this in 2008. I read it first in summer 1989. It's a very easy and fun read, probably one of Forster's most accessible and least pretentious. So sad that the theme of homosexual love kept it from being published until after Forster died. I give it a 4-star because I like it so much more than for the literary merit. (view spoiler)
It has a very satisfying ending! I liked it because it is a good story. I was expecting more of a literary read, too.
Finally came to read it, and liked it very well, though (view spoiler) I think it´s not only about homosexuality, though more in the end than before, than also about growing up, friends, loneliness, perhaps all coming from his finding out about his "Greek love".
