2015 Reading Challenge [Closed] discussion

This is the book I chose for week 3. It doesn't say it has to be made into a movie RECENTLY, and this is a book that's been on my TBR for a while now, so it's a good excuse to finally read it.

Well, I finished this book this morning. It was a quick read, and pretty good, but I have to say the ending was incredibly unsatisfactory. I'll have to look up why this was banned -- I guess because of the bullying?

It was actually banned more for the "sexually explicit content" than the violence and bullying, although the violence and negative portrayal of the Catholic Church was a reason for some.

I sort of agree with you about the ending. It wasn't at all what I expected, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. It fit a more "real life" scenario, where the good guys don't always win and the bad guys don't always get caught.

Yeah, I read about the "sexually explicit content" after I posted this. I find that so strange. There was sexual content, sure ... the porn magazine reference and the implication that Janza was masturbating in the bathroom... but were those explicit? There weren't any details, as far as I remember. I have read books for teens where the sexual content was much more explicit/detailed than this.
