Angie Ryan | 25 comments Hi there movie/book fans!

I came up with a few questions for discussion on this month's selection, but of course the discussion can go anywhere. These are just some ideas of where to start. I will be glad to do head up this group each month, but if anyone else would, I have no problem sharing, or if no one shares at all, we can just trash the whole idea. I have some ideas for next month, but if there is something specific you would like the group to discuss, pls put it in your post.
Thanks for your interest here!

?- Should the shark be considered an actual character in the book or the film? Why or why not?

?- The movie keeps Mayor Vaughn's role to just wanting the beaches open for tourism while the book makes it clear that he has ties to the mob and they are pressuring him to keep the beaches open so real estate values don't fall. In which light do you like Mayor Vaughn better- stupid or mob-influenced?

?-Is the affair between Ellen Brody and Matt Hooper necessary to the plot of the story at all?

?- The USS Indianapolis story that Quint tells in the movie was not in the book, but is a true story about shark attacks after that ship sank after being hit by a torpedo in July 1945. Is it important to the movie? Why or why not?

?The book and the movie have different endings. Which did you like better and why?

Thanks for your time!

Angie Ryan | 25 comments No one has posted anything yet. Should I guess that no one cares about this book club or just didn't like the selection? Please give me some feedback, no matter how negative, I won't take it too personally.

Stephanie | 9 comments I didn't have time to read it. Also, I don't get a notification on my phone when a comment is posted, I only see the notification if I happen to go on the website, which isn't often. So it doesn't stay top of mind.

Megan (megan805) I am interested in participating in this group and hope it continues, but as I mentioned previously, I'm passing on this month's selection because I don't read horror.

I appreciate you taking the initiative to revive the group and hope that it becomes more active with time. Maybe it is just a slow start?

Angie Ryan | 25 comments I hope so Megan. Maybe it has been slow with the 4th of July holiday and people not realizing that this group is open again.

I am going to let things sit for another week before I post next month's book and film. I am not going to quit after just 1 month, so we will carry on. :)

Megan (megan805) Is the original moderator not active and/or do you have administrative privileges to post this month's book? Can previous members be emailed to let them know that the group is back up and running?

Angie Ryan | 25 comments Those are excellent questions. I do not have any special administrative powers, I just kinda took over where there didn't to be anyone in control. I haven't received any negative feedback from anyone with superseding control, so I'm just going with it until I do. I am also a member of another group that I have minimal participation with (history book club) but anytime a post is made to that group, I get a post through email and will continue to do so until I formally leave the group. I would imagine that any former members of this group who did not actually leave the group would be getting messages that we are now back, but I would not know how to contact members who did formally leave when the group broke up before. I will look into that. Thanks for the excellent idea!
