Here we can leave our thoughts/discussion questions on finishing Shuggie Bain

I decided over the weekend that this book was not for me, and gave up after the first 3 timelines. I was drawn into Shuggie's story in the first, and was very disappointed to find that the focus shifted to his family members in later sections, where he almost becomes a side character. I have no doubt the book will eventually get back to Shuggie as he gets "older" during the course of the story, but it would be a case of too little too late. The accents made it generally difficult to follow, and along with the subject matter being difficult to read it's just one too big a slog.

I know my opinion is in the minority, and given how much accolade this book has received I'm glad I tried it - even if just to find out it wasn't for me.
