Hi reading friends! I just finished a romance novel I brought home for some easy reading while waiting on tropical storm updates (it's a Mary Balogh - classic historical romance author) and now I'm back to Jewels by Victoria Finlay. I love narrative nonfiction that deeply explores all facets (see what I did there) of a specialized topic, and this is definitely fitting the bill. There's lots of scientific information about how certain gemstones are created - both naturally and artificially - and how their preciousness has varied over time, affecting the societies where it is found. Right now I'm reading about Cleopatra's emerald mines. Highly recommend for fans of the narrative, historical and social approach of nonfic writers like Mary Roach and Erik Larson.

I hope everyone has stayed safe from yesterday's storm, and that you all had a nice July 4th!
I would love to hear what everyone is reading. Right now, I am reading The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. It is about a woman's husband who disappears after mysterious circumstances, and how she and her stepdaughter try to put the pieces together. So far, I am really liking it!
Would any of you be interested in meeting as a club via Zoom once a month? We can discuss what we are currently reading, and share our ideas with each other. If you are interested, let me know what day and time works for you, and I will try to come up with an accommodating time for everyone. I would love for this club to grow, and for us to interact more.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions regarding reading suggestions or any general library questions.
Happy Reading!
