The Amazing Race - Team 1

How to Play
* Each team member must read one book each week.
* All four tasks must be completed from each week's list.
* You may not start reading your book before Wednesday morning and
you must finish reading your book by Tuesday night (midnight).
* Each week's tasks will be posted Monday mornings.
* The fifth member of each team can choose to read a book for any task they'd like.
Rules:
* Re-reads are allowed.
* Graphic novels are allowed, but they must be 250+ pages.
* No cookbooks or poetry books.
* Books must be at least 140 pages. Audio book page length is determined by the first paper version.
* For cover items, the item must be obvious and distinct.
* For cover color, the color must be at least 50% (check with tineye)
* For location, the MC must be in the country or city at least 50% of the time.
Points
Each task will receive 5 points, which means teams can earn 20 points each week. Also, I will randomly select 1 task to receive an extra 5 points. If the fifth member (or DDBR) reads for that task, the team will earn 25 points for that week.
The team with the most points at the end of the race wins.
DDBR and Missing Players:
If a team has fewer assigned members than five at the beginning of the game, one member may read an extra book to make up the difference. That member is the Designated Double Book Reader (DDBR). The DDBR may change from week to week.
If a team member has an emergency or has scheduled an absence, a DDBR can read 2 books that week so that the team will not lose points. There is no consequence for this absence.
A team member can have one unplanned absence without repercussions. When they miss a second week, they will eliminated from the team. A DDBR will NOT be used in this circumstance. A replacement will hopefully be found.

The Location and Transportation tasks are specific. So that you can plan ahead, here is a list of those tasks:
Location - New York, France, Paris, any country that surrounds the Mediterranean Sea, NOT on Earth, Italy, India, Thailand, China, Alaska
Transportation - at some point in the book, the main character must travel on an airplane, train, large boat/ship, truck, or subway
Depending on your teammates, you may need to find a book that fulfills one of these tasks.

I have a 25 year old daughter, four cats, and am looking forward to getting a dog and a hot tub when I move into my new house. I'll be moving next Thursday and Friday, so hopefully I'll have an audiobook that works for one of the tasks for next week because it's a 14 hour drive!!
Please check in and tell us all a little about yourself. Also, if you have an idea for a team name, shout it out! I've worked with Michelle before on other challenges, and I know she'll be a great co-captain with me.

Great to meet you all. I sent out friend requests to all. Dont think Ive crossed with any of you before.
I am on my lunch hour and sneaking in some GR and kindle time.
A bit about me. Well I will be 58 in a few days time!...Where does the time go? I work in an accounting office and by day I dabble in spreadsheets and all aspects of accounting/bookkeeping...so yes I am a number and details geek.
After work hours I am a rabid reader. I will read just about any genre. I love history particularly English/British Isles. I have been on a mystery, psychological thriller kick lately.
I live in Canada, in the foothills of the Rockies, but have many relatives in the US. Illinois, Colorado. Cant wait till we can travel down again and be reunited.
Ive been married 18 years. My DH has 3 kids from his first marriage and they are mid 40s. So there are 8 grandkids and so far no ggkids. We have 2 cats who I swear they believe that they own the house but I havent seen any mortgage payments contributions from them.
DH is 9 years older than me and I keep hoping he will retire soon but he likes his job and he has no health issues. Once he decides to retire I will go to part time. Thankfully with my job since I work remotely I will be able to travel and work as long as there is internet.

I have a 25 yea..."
How exciting to be moving. Hope all goes well with the move. I told my DH that this last move we did 5 years ago with the last one. I have moved so many times, for jobs, for family or for love.
Audiobook rec for the drive. I have heard that Daisy Jones & The Six is good. I have that one slotted for our road trip in August along with Greenlights. Right now listening to Outlander.

Can't wait to meet everyone else!

Just remember, we can't start the book until Wednesday in order for it to count.

Let me tell you a little about me. I am 73 years old, married for 54 of those years and also retired from 35 years of teaching history and administration in the Florida public school system. We live in a small rural community in northeast Florida between the larger cities of Jacksonville and Gainesville. Our son is an attorney in Jacksonville and sharess my love of history. Our daughter who lives about one quarter of a mile from us is also a teacher. Her greatest claim to fame, however, is that she is the mother of our two precious grandsons aged 17 and 12. We are also blessed to have two step-granddaughters aged 26 and 22. We do not have an empty nest as we share our home with a long-haied tan and black dachshund named Abbey. I love to read and will read almost any genre and as you can imagine historical fictions is my favorite. My husband and I love to travel and as we are both retired we do it as often as possible and with the grands whenver they are free.Next week we will be in Boston with them but I will be able to fulfill my book responsibiltiy.
Glad to be with all of you on this endeavor!

I'm happy to take transportation for Week 1.
