Guess what? I forgot to post the starting line! Sorry about that. A lot going on in my life right now. I'm out and about at the moment. I will get it posted as soon as I get home later.
Inspired by the Sci-Fi month in June, I did all mysteries in July, and I thought I would try to tackle my huge backlog of upmarket and literary novels for August. To be a bit cheeky and thematic, I started
today. A bit dark and icky so far...

Starting line link is posted in top post. Be sure to go to the blog post and enter the charity giveaway.
I wasn't even sure I signed up! lol. My intention was to only read ARCs for ARC August buuut well, nah. I'm listening to
and re-reading
. I do have 3 ARC buddy reads lined up for this month and I hope to start
tomorrow.
I tend to read three books in different formats , so my first three are : -
- definitely worth the hype so far. I love how it entertains and educates so far-
- I needed to complete this series but July couldn't work with me. Oh well, this chunky monkey is off to a good start and may hit that sweet spot. -
-the prologue broke my brain. Will see how the actual chapters go. I may have been ambitious in setting up each section for one day with my other reads. Will see. And I have a few books with August in title that I will squeeze in :
and maybe
. So good to see I'm not the only one who thinks like this.
I can't believe I almost forgot about this readathon. (Only remembered because I was thinking ahead to the October one.)Finished:
Reading:
@Elyse Are you re-reading R.L. Stine because of the new Netflix movie series? I did that in July, had a lot of fun with it :)

After a whirlwind marathon of reading last month, my August has started a bit slow. I finished
a few days ago and it was okay. Wink can certainly write, but the story didn't really go anywhere for me, and it had some very dark moments. Then I read
which is a rather unlikeable but very compelling book. I think a lot of folks (judging from the reviews) are misled into reading the book because they like the movie that it inspired—JoJo Rabbit. The book seems like it's really a commentary on patriarchy and "kept" women rather than a novel about the Second World War, and although I found it hard to read, it was definitely thought-provoking!
I listened to
before Dewey's and now here are my Dewey's accomplishments!
And I also listened to
I managed 31 pgs of
so I will be continuing it today/this week and I'm also starting a buddy read of
today.ARC Tally: 4

It's nearly fall, and I've had a weak month of reading... too much work, and I've picked some uninspiring titles. I have managed six books this month, and I might squeeze in one more. So far, I've read:
Of these books, The Cactus was definitely the best—a sort of chiller reimagining of Eleanor Oliphant. The Things We Cannot Say was definitely the weakest, and not a book I can recommend. Overall, meh. Here's looking forward to a more exciting autumn!
Welp, I may as well do a wrap up. August was a strange month, I had some wonderful books but near the end the month seemed to be on fast forward. Never got to any books with August in the title. I ended up returning Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies to the library without going any further. Too much on my plate. I will pick up again and read it as my only read.
What I did finish:
Re-reads :
- Kevin Free does such a fantastic job with these audiobooks. And then
Library books :
(just don't bother with this one),
and
Scribd:
My own pile :
Still reading :
You guys did a lot of great reading. Hope you enjoyed the time, even if all the books weren't so great.

Great list of reads! I loved Bird Box and The Ballad of Black Tom. Dietland is one I've been wanting to read, and I can't wait to get my hands on the Eric LaRocca book. Wonderful job on the reading. Be sure to fill out the wrap-up form over at the blog. :)
