I'd like to nominate 'Belgarath the Sorcerer' by David Eddings. This is a prequel to the Belgariad cycle
I will nominate The Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts
The world of Athera is oppressed by the malevolent Mistwraith. Only the combined powers of two half-brothers--an enigmatic man who spurns violence and a charismatic crusader powered by righteous anger and a bloody sword--can challenge his stranglehold and save their world.

Remember that Saturday is not only Valentine's Day but also the last day for nominations for our April Classic SF/F Novel discussion topic. (For the former, there's the usual: chocolates, flowers, promises you don't intend to keep. For the latter, there's this thread.)
I probably have tongue in cheek to call him classic, but since they began to bring him out in ebook he's been a go-to of mine whenever I feel like reliving my sf past. Known for introducing sf to the arts, with cultural studies people assigned to see what the aliens' art or xenomusicology can do for Earth politics. Monument by Lloyd Biggle Jr.

Edited to add a link to the Kindle at Amazon US, because it isn't integrated with the pb:

How about Nightside the Long Sun by Gene Wolfe? I don't see any Gene Wolfe on your bookshelf, which is a pity.
Thank you for the nominations.

(A Classic novel would typically have been published prior to 2000 and be considered a popular, trailblazing or important work of science fiction or fantasy. Presumably, any actual "classic" is still in print!)
You can review past nominees and selections in the group's BookShelf. If you wish to continue a discussion of one of our past group selections, all those discussion topics are still open in our Book Discussions area.
You need not have read the title you are nominating; after all, you'll be reading along. Feel free to say why you are making the nomination, if you care to. If your nomination is selected by the group, you'll be expected to take the lead in the discussion.
Note that this is our discussion selection for April. Wilhelm's Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang has already been selected as our March Classic Novel discussion topic.
Nominations will be open through Saturday, February 14, when I'll collect the nominees and post a poll so members can choose among them.
