It looks like I am in the minority on this one because I enjoyed it a lot more than the first book. The mystery was gripping with several intense moments. That said, it was irritating that the killer wasn't any of the suspects in the book. I also like Nikki and Reed and am interested to see how their relationship develops.
It was a very different style of story from the first one which was more like a soap opera. This one was more classic thriller/romantic suspense. The Morning After was a bit slower in the first half but came together nicely by the end. Mmm.. I'm not sure which one I preferred. Both 3.5 star reads for different reasons. Even though it was slow to get running the relationship between Reed and Nikki was a lot more solid than Adam and Caitlin. I think we've all made our thoughts known on that one. 😒
I liked this so much more than the first book and am SO happy I used an Audible credit for the audiobook because the narrator, Natalie Naudus elevated the story through her performance. Her storytelling is excellent and she did a great job in giving distinctive voice to the main characters. I’m not sure I would have enjoyed it as much of I’d read it.
That said, I’m just not invested in any of these characters. The first book resolved an open issue in the New Orleans series but aside from a few character mentions here from that series, I don’t see the need to stick around. I’m ready to go back to The Big Easy.

Maybe it would be better listening with a good narrator. For some reason I liked the way this story began. There was a lot of promise, but by 50% in I had to force myself to read to the end. Maybe if I took a break for a couple days, I would enjoy it more, and be more positive about the characters. I still like Reed, but I'm not buying Reed and Nikki.
I'm with all of you, I'm ready to get back to New Orleans especially since I'm sitting at the Cafe Du Monde enjoying a beignet at the moment. I came with my son who is here for a conference. I love this place.
Ooh, Sharon so jealous.I already borrowed book 3 from the library,
so I'll be reading regardless. Plus I always read in order, it's a superpower, LOL. And also there's a book 4 just released .
I understand Lisa, but I thought the series now switches back to NO series, according to the author's website.

Don’t forget the series topic includes the reading order. If ever you have a question as to what comes next, please reference.

They are my favorite settings for books.
I'm only here for 4 days. It was last minute. My grandson wanted to go with his dad. I got to be babysitter.

If only... Australia has to be vaccinated to 80% of the adult population before they will open our international borders and we're at 17% at the moment. Although it's a huge incentive so I live in hope!

Lisa, one of those trips was to visit different venues to plan a major sales team trip. I definitely have some ideas if you're ever interested.
