Book is possibly YA, late 80's or early 90's?? The girl in the book came from a semi-poor family who sacrificed a lot for her to move to another state and live with this family (who also had a daughter who skated) and train with a great coach (possibly to be on an Olympic team). She has to make the choice to keep skating (and costing her family money) or going home to be an actual kid.

Hello, here is the link to that suggested book from above: In the Penalty Box by Lynn Rush. I haven't read this book but it does talk about her goal being the Olympics!
That was just published this year, and OP read her book in the late '80s or early '90s.
