I just started this today and I was intrigued pretty quickly. It's a very easy read so far, and it reminds me of Ready Player One with a touch of Snow Crash in it. I'm loving the Asian rep in it so far!
Okay, this was a really easy and quick read and I found it held my interest from beginning to end. I did find some of it predictable, but it didn't seem to take away from my enjoyment. I'm looking forward to reading the second book!https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

This book is definitely one of my faves! I don't know how Marie Lu does it but she writes such gorgeous imagery and scenery. I felt like I was there in the Warcross world and she wrote it in such a way that it felt realistic and yet entirely possible for it to have been a real virtual reality experience. I felt like the pacing was really good and I loved the whole subplot with Zero. Character wise, I liked the characters but they didn't feel completely well-rounded and seemed a bit aloof and distant at times. Overall though, I think I rated the book 5 stars the first time I read it and since then this book has definitely been reread by me a couple few times :)

That's awesome. Yes, other than the mystery of Zero, I felt like we really got to know Emika, and a little bit of Hideo, but otherwise, the characters were a bit sketched in. But the world was really amazing, and her storytelling was such that I got completely drawn into the tale. Normally, I like books for the characters, but in this case, it was the world and the story.

Same! I'm definitely a character reader so if I'm not liking the characters then I won't like the story BUT Warcross was an exception where I liked the world much much more than the characters themselves.

One thing that this book had going for it was that at least I didn't dislike the characters. They just were far less interesting than the world, lol.

I agree! The characters were not unlikeable but the characters were definitely less of a focus than the world and its world building

You're in for a ride, Jonathan! The world-building is truly impressive! You were absolutely right. This book took me to a whole new world, i don't think I`ve ever read about bounty-hunting or hacking let alone both in the same novel. Kudos to those who vote for this as book of the month, because i sure didn't. After reading this can`t wait to pickup the sequel "Wildcard."

Yay!! I'm glad you liked it! This is one of my favourite books in the whole world! Wildcard is just as good and has lots of twists and turns. I hope you get around to reading it soon! It's definitely worth a read :)
