Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi is a YA adaptation of the book Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi

It's an accessible view of some of the historical events that influenced racist attitudes in the United States. I read it in 2020 for a Black Lives Matter themed challenge. It didn't cover as many events or time periods as I expected at the time, but it added a great deal to my understanding. I recommend it.

I also read How to Be an Antiracist by Kendi which was a much more personal and emotional read. It's largely about understanding the process of bias. When Kendi reveals his own biases, it helped me (as a white reader) to feel less defensive. Biases and stereotypes infect us all, even against our own kind. (For instance, many women hold stereotypical views of women in leadership roles.)
