I did not add the following:
The Violin Conspiracy - there is nothing in the synopsis or any of the reviews to indicate the time period. Perhaps someone could come back to the thread after reading it to let us know when it is set.

The links to A Fine Madness go to two different books. Neither of which is going to be published in 2022.
A Fine Madness - published in 2021
A Fine Madness - published in 1960

A Botanist's Guide is already on the list.

Oh lucky! I'm not super familiar with Sherlock but I enjoy Enola even if the history is way off. Did you see the Netflix movie? As an aunt of two tween girls, I loved it and think Enola is a great role model for them. (Aside from running away from home and school anyway). I think there's a second movie planned for later this year. Millie Bobby Brown is one busy young lady!

message 41: by Phair (new)

Phair (sphair) | 189 comments I don’t do streaming or have any pay services like Netflix so until Enola comes to DVD I won’t see it. I started reading the books back in 2006 then there was the long gap after bk 6 in 2010 until the first new one last year. That new one didn’t measure up to the older titles IMHO.

Too bad. It is a Netflix original so I don't think it will be coming to DVD, an outdated format. The movie was different from the books, silly and unrealistic but Enola Holmes is a fun character and a good role model for girls to be proactive in getting what they want out of life. She doesn't take the sexist nonsense of the time for an answer and goes out there and kicks butt- in a frilly dress and corset!

Penny Ingham | 6 comments I have just finished reading an ARC of The Bookseller of Inverness by S.G. Maclean. As a huge fan of her Damien Seeker series I was keen to read this latest standalone. And I wasn't disappointed. Set in the mid-1700's, it's part adventure story with intrigue, betrayal secrets and spies, and part examination of a country (Scotland) still traumatised by the terrors and brutal suppressions after their defeat at the battle of Culoden. Highly recommended!
