This week as we watch the news our screens are filled with trouble; and in troubled times, we need comforting words. So,I have been humming the lyrics to Paul McCartney's Let It Be:
(When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, "Let it be"
And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, "Let it be")
But I also like to turn to written works that make me think, often poetry. In 2018, DODReads posted of the "Top 5 Military Poems." You might think poetry and the military make strange bedfellows, but I think you'll agree, the fiver are worth revisiting. They are:
Theodore Roosevelt: Man in the Arena and Doctrine of the Strenuous Life
Rudyard Kipling: If
William Ernest Henley: Invictus
Alfred Lord Tennyson: Ulysses
Read them here: https://www.dodreads.com/top-six-mili...
What about you? Do you have a favorite "military poem"?
