Good evening.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pleasure to introduce to you Mr. and Mrs. Cree and Kayla Vanhook. Or at least their "wedding photo" being used as the cover art of their story, Until.

A bit about this cover art. It is referenced from an iStock photo in which in order to get the left hand’s ring finger of the bride, I had to invert the image. Using my light box, the image was traced—at least everything except the ball gown wedding dress in the original. That I did not like and opted for the mermaid style. So, with a little fashion designing on my part, I fitted Kayla with elegance. The bio illumination across her chest and along her arm is an aspect of the story (and a give away to who isn’t exactly human, but this is explained in the story). Cree’s tuxedo was rather straightforward, though; but I did enjoy reproducing and detailing his watch. To finish up the illustration, I thought I would add a blurred background of Atlanta—the story’s setting—but the photo I took of the city from afar didn’t quite work out, so I settled on an image nabbed from online. (Thus making this rendering mixed media.) The background image adds to the wholesomeness of marriage, which is a truth that is supposed to be beguiling because, as Until will reveal, there is so much to this highest level of social relationships. Especially when juxtaposed to social politics and expectations.
