Middlemarch discussion

This is our last book discussion in August! And we're roughly halfway through Middlemarch as of tonight's reading.

Question 1: Let's start with our Three Love Problems. What are the problems, and what do you think of them?

We've got Dorothea/Casaubon/Will, Rosie/Lydgate, and Mary/Fred.

I couldn't find it either.

I really hate the Dorothea feels she can't even be involved with the building of the cottages. The only thing Casaubon has said he doesn't want to happen is for Will to visit at his home. He never said he forbids her from visiting her father etc. It feels like she is just hanging around the house hoping to be useful to him.

I think she's reading Casaubon's unspoken jealousy pretty well. We get the explanation that he's not worried she's doing anything immoral, but he's jealous that she will like Will better than she likes him (and who wouldn't?).

Sorry about the problems with the topics. I created the first one the wrong way and it didn't end up in our group.
